Mats Hummels Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Borussia Dortmund Star
Manchester United transfer target Mats Hummels is set to stay with Borussia Dortmund for at least one more season.
The German centre-back has been heavily linked with the Red Devils for some time now, per Sky Sports, but has pledged to continue at the Westfalenstadion for the 2015-16 term.
Hummels said it was an "honour" to be linked with the Premier League side and that he could be tempted to join the Old Trafford outfit in the future, per BBC Sport: "Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it's an honour. I decided not to make the move this year. I decided I wanted to stay here."
The 26-year-old Hummels joined Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2009 and has established himself as one of the world's best central defenders.
A World Cup winner with Germany in 2014, a poor 2014-15 season for Dortmund and the departure of manager Jurgen Klopp led to speculation that Hummels may depart the Bundesliga side this summer.
However, he is loyal to Dortmund and will look to help them back to the top of German football next season.
United boss Louis van Gaal will now have to bring in someone else at centre-back as he looks to strengthen his often-vulnerable defence.
The BBC's Simon Stone reported a £28.6 million bid was submitted for Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos, but Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell does not see that move being completed:
Valencia's Nicolas Otamendi is another rumoured option, and Sport Witness recently relayed reports from AS suggesting the interest from the Red Devils in the Argentinian is genuine:
The 27-year-old is a combative, experienced centre-back who could add great strength to United's back line.
With Hummels no longer an option, Otamendi could be the answer for United, and he would be a fine addition to Van Gaal's squad.
