Russell Wilson Reacts to Giants Contract with MetLife Stadium Photo: Been Here Before

The New York Giants signed Russell Wilson to a one-year, $10.5 million deal on Tuesday, which could rise to $21 million with incentives.

And the veteran quarterback responded on social media with a photo of MetLife Stadium and a dose of his vintage optimism, seemingly referencing his Super Bowl XLVIII triumph at the venue:

For the 36-year-old Wilson, it will be his third new home stadium in as many seasons and his fourth in the past five years.

After 10 excellent seasons with the Seattle Seahawks to start his career—which included a Super Bowl title and nine Pro Bowl berths—Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos, alongside a 2022 fourth-round pick, for a pair of first- and second-round picks in 2022 and 2023, a 2022 fifth-rounder and players Noah Fant, Shelby Harris and Drew Lock.

The Broncos then signed him to a five-year, $242 million extension.

Both the trade and extension proved disastrous. Wilson struggled mightily in his two seasons in Denver, going just 11-19 as the starter, and the Broncos released him following the 2023 season, eating an NFL-record $85 million in dead cap.

He then signed a one-year deal with Pittsburgh and had something of a bounce-back year, throwing for 2,482 yards, 16 touchdowns and five interceptions in 11 games. Still, the Steelers lost four straight games to close the regular season, costing them an AFC North title, and were eliminated by the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.

So now it's off to the Big Apple for Wilson, and it very well could be another one-and-done stop, with the Giants expected to eventually draft a long-term option at quarterback. For now, he's expected to be the starter, with Jameis Winston operating as the backup.

But if Wilson is posting a different stadium on social media in a year, it won't come as a huge surprise.
