Trinity Rodman, Crystal Dunn Headline USWNT Roster for Olympic Rematch vs. Brazil

United States women's national team coach Emma Hayes announced her 24-player squad for a pair of friendlies with Brazil on April 5 and 8.

Star forward Trinity Rodman returns to the team after back trouble forced her to miss the SheBelieves Cup. Crystal Dunn, Emily Sonnett and Lindsey Heaps bring plenty of experience to the side.

The United States was the gold medalist in the 2024 Summer Olympics, Hayes' first tournament at the helm, but the last few months have served as a bit of a reality check.

The USWNT drew 0-0 with England in November and scraped out a 2-1 win over the Netherlands a few days later. Then came the SheBelieves Cup in February, which saw the Americans lose 2-1 to Japan in their final match.

Hayes didn't have the full complement of her team at the time. Rodman was a notable absence along with Mallory Swanson, Rose Lavelle, Naomi Girma and Sophia Wilson.

Still, the overall result underlined how the United States is in a transitional period, which brings inevitable growing pains.

Looking ahead to April's friendlies, the goalkeeper position is likely to generate a lot of intrigue.

Alyssa Naeher's retirement created a vacuum between the sticks because the U.S. lacks a clear successor. Jane Campbell has just 10 caps to her name, while Mandy McGlynn's start in the 2-1 win over Australia was only her second national team appearance. Phallon Tullis-Joyce has yet to debut for the USWNT.

Who gets picked to start against Brazil and how they perform should bring added insight into Hayes' goalkeeper hierarchy.
