Timothy RappMar 22, 2025

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Maroon is retiring after the conclusion of the 2024-25 season.

"It's tough. Sometimes you've got to give up everything you know and everything you've dreamed of your whole life," he told Blackhawks' analyst Darren Pang prior to Saturday's against the St. Louis Blues (h/t NHL.com). "I just know it's time for me and it's time for my family to go start a new chapter in our lives."

Maroon, 36, is a three-time Stanley Cup winner. His career has included stints with the Anaheim Ducks (2011-12 to 2015-16), the Edmonton Oilers (2015-16 to 2017-18), the New Jersey Devils (2017-18), the St. Louis Blues (2018-19), the Tampa Bay Lightning (2019-20 to 2022-23), the Minnesota Wild (2023-24), the Boston Bruins (2023-24) and the Blackhawks this season.

He won a title with the Blues (2018-19) and two with the Lightning (2019-20, 2020-21), raising the Stanley Cup in three straight seasons.

For his career, Maroon has scored 125 goals and added 195 assists during the regular season, with 23 goals and 30 assists in the playoffs. He scored a career-high 27 goals in the 2016-17 season, and a career-high 26 points and 43 assists the following season.

This year, he's notched four goals and 12 assists in 59 games. The Blackhawks (20-40-9, 49 points) have already been eliminated from postseason consideration.

"To get to have a special moment tonight and be in St. Louis, to have my family come to town... I won a Stanley Cup here and I'm just going to finish this year as every game is going to be my last game," Maroon said Saturday. "I'm going to play as hard as I can and do everything I can to keep winning hockey (games). It's all I know ... it's tough."
