Predicting Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson's Landing Spots After Jameis Joins Giants

Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson are still figuring out where they'll play next season, and one of their top landing spots just signed a different quarterback.

Per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz, the Giants are signing veteran Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal after a decent season with the Cleveland Browns.

All signs pointed to either Rodgers or Wilson landing with New York this offseason, but that might not be the case after the Giants signed Winston. Following the deal with Winston, here are a few of the top landing spots at this point for Rodgers and Wilson.

Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers are one of the most quarterback-needy teams remaining this offseason after other teams filled their vacant spots under center.

Pittsburgh has been courting Rodgers for most of his free agency, and things intensified between the two sides on Friday. Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Rodgers visited the Steelers and spent around six hours meeting with their coaches. Schefter noted that "it was said to be a positive visit."

Pittsburgh seems like it would be an enticing destination for Rodgers after the team added DK Metcalf alongside George Pickens this offseason, but only time will tell whether he ends up playing for Mike Tomlin in 2025.

New York Giants

Just because the Giants signed Winston doesn't mean Rodgers won't end up under center in New York. Winston has spent most of his career as a backup and he might keep his role as a QB2 in 2025.

The Giants have the No. 3 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, and there's no guarantee they will land either of the top options, Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward with that pick.

This year's draft class is a bit of a down year in terms of quarterback talent, so the safer option for New York would be taking a veteran one a short-term deal and finding its next franchise quarterback later on.

Retirement

Rodgers' preference in free agency was to sign with the Minnesota Vikings, but that isn't going to happen as the team is not pursuing him and seemingly plans to go with J.J. McCarthy under center.

Earlier this month, The Athletic's Michael Silver, Dianna Russini and Alec Lewis reported that if he didn't sign with he Vikings, Rodgers could opt to retire rather than signing with the Giants or Steelers.

Rodgers still has some football left in him, that much was made clear by a solid season in 2025, but if he doesn't like any of his options in free agency, calling it quits might be the best move.

Russell Wilson's Top Landing Spots

Pittsburgh Steelers

If Wilson had it his way, he'd likely stay put in Pittsburgh this offseason.

The Steelers are still pursuing Rodgers and would likely pick him over Wilson, but if Rodgers chooses a different option, Wilson will almost certainly be back in black and gold next season.

Wilson had a decent season with Pittsburgh in 2024, throwing for 2,482 yards and 16 touchdowns in 11 games on his way to a Pro Bowl nod, but he left much to be desired.

Still, it could be worth running it back with Wilson, especially with his former teammate Metcalf on the roster.

New York Giants

Just like Rodgers, joining the Giants is not off the table for Wilson even after Winston's signing on Friday.

If New York chooses to sign a veteran quarterback, Wilson will be one of the first two options. It will most likely come down to where Rodgers signs. If he picks the Steelers, the Giants will probably make signing Wilson their priority.

It wouldn't be surprising to see New York wait until after the draft to sign either quarterback, though. If the Giants somehow end up with Ward or Sanders, they could pivot away from Wilson or Rodgers entirely.

Tennessee Titans

The Titans have the No. 1 pick in this year's draft and will almost certainly use it on a quarterback—either Ward or Sanders.

Still, picking up Wilson on a short-term deal is well within the realm of possibility.

Tennessee's starter in 2024, Will Levis, is clearly not capable of leading the team to the playoffs. That means if something were to happen to whoever the Titans draft with the No. 1 pick, they wouldn't have a great option under center.

If they pick up Wilson, they could let him start over Ward or Sanders while the rookie settles in or let the rookie start and rest assured knowing they have a reliable option behind him.

Either way, Tennessee would benefit tremendously from having a veteran in the quarterback room.
