Giants Rumors: Latest on Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson amid Steelers, Browns Buzz

Jack MurrayMar 21, 2025

The New York Giants are reportedly going to be proactive in their pursuit of a new quarterback.

During an appearance on Get Up, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported that the Giants "could pivot off" of free-agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers and instead look to sign Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco or Jameis Winston.

"The people I've talked to around the league believe that the Giants could pivot off Aaron Rodgers if they haven't already," Fowler said. "I talked to somebody with the team who said, 'We started working contingency plans the moment we started bringing in free agents for visits.' That's Russell Wilson, Joe Flacco, Jameis Winston. So, one of those three certainly could be a Giant. I'm told Russell Wilson, dating back to the Super Bowl, has looked at the Giants as a very viable option for him."

Despite his age, the 41-year-old Rodgers remains a productive passer and could bring a major boost to the Giants offense. He threw for 3,897 yards with 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2024 for the New York Jets.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are also a suitor for the veteran and have reached the playoffs in four of the last five seasons, so they would likely be the preferable destination if Rodgers hopes to compete for a Super Bowl.

The Giants went 3-14 in 2024 and missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year.

Wilson spent most of 2024 as the Steelers' starter while Flacco and Winston saw time under center for the Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns, respectively.

Any of the options would be an upgrade for the Giants, as New York had four quarterbacks take snaps under center in 2024.
