Nintendo of America purchased the Mariners in 1992 and remained the majority owner of the franchise until 2016 when it sold all but 10 percent of its stake to current majority owner John W. Stanton.
The Nintendo brand has long been a staple in the Seattle area, as Nintendo of America's headquarters is based in nearby Redmond, Washington.
Over the years and even today, Nintendo advertising has been prominent at the Mariners' T-Mobile Park.
In 2022, the Mariners went 90-72 and reached the playoffs for the first time since 2001, but the past two seasons have been hugely disappointing.
Despite posting winning records of 88-74 and 85-77, the M's missed the postseason in both 2023 and 2024.
Although the Mariners weren't particularly active in terms of free-agent signings or trades during the offseason, they enter the 2025 campaign with some reason for optimism.
That is primarily due to the fact that Seattle boasts arguably the best starting pitching rotation in baseball, comprised of Logan Gilbert, Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo.
Offense could be a major issue for the Mariners, though, as there isn't a ton of star power or production to speak of in the lineup aside from outfielder Julio Rodriguez and catcher Cal Raleigh.
Seattle will look to get its 2025 season off to a hot start with a four-game series against an A's team that has lost 93 or more games in three straight campaigns.
