Report: Stefon Diggs Meets With Patriots in NFL Free Agency amid Knee Injury Rehab
Free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs is visiting the New England Patriots, per The Athletic's Chad Graff.
"The Patriots and Diggs have not yet agreed to a contract, but if the visit goes well for the two sides, one could come soon," Graff wrote.
Diggs, 31, has played 10 NFL seasons. The four-time Pro Bowler registered 47 catches for 496 yards while scoring four touchdowns in eight games for the Houston Texans in 2024. Diggs' season ended after he suffered a torn ACL on Oct. 27 against the Indianapolis Colts.
It's no secret that the Pats are looking for a wide receiver, based in part on head coach Mike Vrabel's comments last week (h/t Pro Football Talk'sย Josh Alper, via a team transcript).
โWeโll continue to target. Mack Hollins will be in here tomorrow. Heโs a wide receiver. But weโll continue to look at the wide receiver position as it relates to free agency, explore every option with other teams, and potentially then weโll get to the point where weโre looking at the draft. Thereโs just a lot of time, and I know that everybody is like, itโs over in free agency. Itโs never over.โ
New England has $81.6 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, so there's certainly room for Diggs. The need is there as well, given that the team doesn't have a No. 1 wideout on the roster. No pass-catcher had more than 674 yards or 66 receptions last year.
It's unclear when Diggs will be ready to return, but he was the subject of an encouraging video posted on Instagram last January by Dr. Sharif Tabbah, who is working with the wideout to get him back to full health. Diggs was seen performing various workouts less than three months post-ACL injury.
Ultimately, if he gets back to his pre-injury form, then Diggs will certainly be a clutch addition for any team. The Pats are clearly one to watch here, and the stars could easily align for Diggs to land in New England.
