Report: Laremy Tunsil Traded to Commanders; Texans Get Multiple NFL Draft Picks

Timothy RappMar 10, 2025

The Washington Commanders acquired star offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and a 2025 fourth-round pick from the Houston Texans for third- and seventh-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft and second- and fourth-round picks in 2026, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and The Athletic's Dianna Russini.

It is the second blockbuster trade for the Commanders this offseason after also acquiring wideout Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers.

The Commanders have clearly prioritized building a true contender around Daniels this offseason. The team also re-signed tight ends Zach Ertz and John Bates, linebacker Bobby Wagner and signed defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, utilizing the resources they have while Daniels is on his rookie contract.

Given that the Commanders already reached the NFC Championship Game in Daniels' rookie season, it's a smart approach.

As for Tunsil, the 30-year-old is a five-time Pro Bowler who is currently under contract for the next two seasons, though Houston's willingness to part ways with him is one of the intriguing facets of the deal.

NFL reporter Charean Williams posted on social media that it was a "great trade for Houston," adding that Tunsil was a "penalty-machine and a sack-giver-upper."

Art Stapleton of NorthJersey.com added that he doesn't believe Tunsil "played as well last year as his reputation suggests, so from that perspective, it tells you the Texans may have agreed and looked to bail at the best offer they could get. Not slamming the deal for Washington, but don't bury Houston for it just yet."

And Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston posted that the Texans "want to get younger and less expensive on the offensive line."

Washington is willing to take on that cost to protect Daniels' blind side and upgrade the offensive line, however. It's a statement of intent from the Commanders, who clearly believe they can lessen the gap between them and the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
