Cooper Kupp, Brandon Aiyuk Top Landing Spots After DK Metcalf Trade, Davante Contract

Doric SamMar 9, 2025

Ahead of the start of NFL free agency, a pair of wide receivers are on the move on Sunday.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Los Angeles Rams plan to sign star wideout Davante Adams to a two-year, $46 million contract with $26 million guaranteed. Rapoport and Tom Pelissero later reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers are acquiring star receiver DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks.

Earlier this offseason, Los Angeles informed veteran receiver Cooper Kupp that he would be traded despite his wishes to remain with the franchise that selected him with a third-round pick in the 2017 draft. Rapoport reported earlier this month that the San Francisco 49ers are open to trading wideout Brandon Aiyuk.

Let's take a look at some of the top landing spots for Kupp and Aiyuk following Adams' arrival to the Rams and Metcalf's trade to the Steelers.

Los Angeles Chargers

In his announcement revealing the Rams' decision to trade him, Kupp declared that he "always believed" his career "was going to begin and end in L.A." Perhaps he should push for a trade to Hollywood's second NFL team.

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off an 11-6 finish and a playoff appearance in their first year under head coach Jim Harbaugh. 2024 second-round pick Ladd McConkey led the team with 82 catches and 1,149 receiving yards while adding seven touchdowns, but star quarterback Justin Herbert is missing a veteran presence in his receiving corps that would put the Chargers over the top as title contenders.

Per Over The Cap, the Chargers are entering the offseason with the second-most salary cap space in the league, so they would have no issues absorbing Kupp's $20 million salary for the 2025 season.

Joining the Chargers would give Kupp the opportunity to play alongside one of the best young quarterbacks in the league while staying in the only city he's known for his NFL career.

Green Bay Packers

Like the Chargers, the Green Bay Packers have a rising star quarterback with a young crop of wide receivers that would benefit from a veteran addition.

Packers signal-caller Jordan Love has proved to be a reliable starter with back-to-back playoff appearances in his first two years under center full-time. However, no receiver on the team reached the 900-yard mark last season, with Jayden Reed leading the team with 857 receiving yards.

Adding Kupp to the mix would take the pressure off Reed, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs as they continue their development.

The need for veteran experience isn't lost on the Packers, as star running back Josh Jacobs declared earlier this offseason that "we need a proven No. 1" receiver. Kupp would fill that role and give Green Bay a better chance of making it through the competitive NFC next season.

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a disappointing 7-10 finish to the 2024 campaign, so they could use some big moves this offseason to boost morale for a starving fan base.

Star quarterback Dak Prescott was limited to eight games last season due to a hamstring injury that required surgery. Adding some more firepower on offense would benefit the 31-year-old as he makes his return under center in 2025.

Kupp wouldn't have the pressure of being the No. 1 receiver in Dallas, as CeeDee Lamb has proven to be one of the most consistent sources of production in the NFL with over 1,000 yards in each of the last four seasons.

The veteran excels in the slot, so he would undoubtedly open up more opportunities for Lamb downfield.

New England Patriots

During a recent episode of The Todd McShay Show, NFL draft expert Todd McShay reported, "I've heard rumors" that the New England Patriots are interested in trading for Aiyuk.

Per Over The Cap, the Patriots have the most salary cap space in the league, so they would have no issues taking on Aiyuk's four-year, $120 million contract that he signed just last year.

New England is looking to add talent around second-year quarterback Drake Maye, who was named to the Pro Bowl as an alternate following his impressive rookie season in which he threw for 2,276 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Adding Aiyuk would give the Patriots a proven No. 1 receiver who will aid Maye's development as the team enters its first year under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are still searching for ways to accelerate the progression of 2023 No. 1 pick Bryce Young, and adding a reliable option on the outside would work wonders for the signal-caller as he enters his third year in the NFL.

The Panthers failed to get much production from their receiving corps last season, as veteran wideout Adam Thielen led the team with just 615 receiving yards.

Young improved toward the end of the 2024 campaign with seven passing touchdowns and no interceptions across the final three games of the year. He's shown signs of being a capable starter, but he will need more talent around him if he hopes to end Carolina's perpetual rebuild.

Aiyuk's presence would benefit Young in a major way as the Panthers work their way out of the league's basement.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills are coming off yet another disappointing playoff exit at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, so they should be motivated to make a major splash this offseason.

Star quarterback Josh Allen is coming off his first NFL MVP campaign after shouldering a major load for the Bills with 28 passing touchdowns, 12 rushing touchdowns and even a receiving score.

However, Allen could use an influx of talent in Buffalo's passing attack, as no player on the team reached the 1,000-yard mark in 2024. Khalil Shakir led the Bills with 76 catches and 821 receiving yards.

By acquiring Aiyuk, the Bills would give Allen a dependable No. 1 option who could help the team overcome its postseason woes.
