Sam Darnold Rumors: QB Looking for 'Multiyear' NFL FA Contract Amid Seahawks Buzz
Sam Darnold is approaching his free agency with an open mind.
NFL insider Josina Anderson reported that the 27-year-old is seeking a "multiyear deal" and "remains open to multiple opportunities" after Geno Smith's trade to the Las Vegas Raiders created a starting quarterback opening with the Seattle Seahawks.

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Darnold had a resurgent season in 2024 with the Minnesota Vikings after signing a one-year deal with the team last offseason.
According to NFL Network'sย Tom Pelissero, Darnold is "not expected" to return to the Vikings in free agency, though the Seahawks figure to be firmly in the mix for his services after Friday's stunner.
Darnold threw for 4,313 yards, 35 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 2024 and led the Vikings to a 14-3 record. He was named a Pro Bowler for his efforts and helped rebuild his value after a difficult start to his professional career.
While the Vikings could have retained Darnold, the presence of 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy on the roster makes the concept of losing Darnold to the highest bidder easier to handle. Minnesota can utilize the salary that would be owed to Darnold to build around McCarthy and help the team remain relevant in the NFC.
Darnold, in the meantime, will look to find a long-term home, and Anderson's report shows that he hopes his next spot won't just be another temporary home.
