NFL Rumors: Broncos' Zach Allen Eyes 'Lucrative' New Contract Around $25M Per Year
After the best season of his career, Zach Allen is reportedly looking to get paid.
Per the Denver Gazette's Chris Tomasson, the Denver Broncos defensive end is "seeking a lucrative contract extension." According to Tomasson, Allen is hoping to get an extension "in the neighborhood of $25 million per season."
Allen earned second-team All-Pro honors in his sixth NFL campaign, racking up 61 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 40 quarterback hits and 15 tackles for loss. All of the figures were career highs.
Allen has one year remaining on his three-year, $45.75 million contract and is set to earn a base salary of $12.74 million in 2025. Spotrac projects Allen to have a market value of $22.1 million per year.
The Las Vegas Raiders, Denver's AFC West rival, signed star defensive end Maxx Crosby to a three-year, $106.5 million deal on Wednesday, making him the highest-paid non quarterback in NFL history.
While Allen likely won't get that kind of money, the deal resets the market for defensive ends and could help him make a case for a more expensive contract.
The Broncos have $40.851 million in cap space to work with this offseason, per Over the Cap, and they might be willing to spend some of that money on a new contract for Allen.
Luckily for Denver, Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II is already under contract until 2030, so the Broncos don't have to worry about giving him a new deal anytime soon.
Denver's starting quarterback Bo Nix is also on an inexpensive rookie deal until 2029, giving the Broncos even more money to work with.
Allen was one of the anchors of the defense that led the NFL in sacks in 2024, and they likely don't want to let him walk in free agency next year. To keep him around, it might take giving him an extension this offseason.
