Saquon Barkley, Eagles Agree to Reported Record $41M Contract After Super Bowl Win

Doric SamMar 4, 2025

After helping to lead the Philadelphia Eagles to victory in Super Bowl LIX, star running back Saquon Barkley was rewarded in historic fashion.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles signed Barkley to a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension that makes him the highest-paid running back in NFL history and the first at his position ever to make over $20 million per year. The deal includes $36 million fully guaranteed at signing, and Barkley can earn an additional $15 million through incentives and contract escalators.

"Overflow! Grateful for the Eagles Organization , grateful for my team, grateful for the amazing fans in Philly," Barkley wrote on Instagram. "Fly Eagles Fly."

The extension for Barkley comes less than a year after he signed a three-year deal with the Eagles. Schefter called it a "rare step" for Philadelphia to extend his contract so quickly.

After spending the first six years with the New York Giants, the Pennsylvania native chose to sign with the NFC East rival Eagles last offseason. It turned out to be a match made in heaven, as Barkley had a resurgent year that re-established him as one of the best running backs in the league.

In 16 games last season, Barkley led the league with 345 carries and 2,005 rushing yards while adding 13 touchdowns. He was just the ninth running back in league history to eclipse the 2,000-yard mark, and he would've had a shot at breaking Eric Dickerson's single-season record of 2,105 yards had he not sat out the regular-season finale. He also had 33 catches for 278 yards and two more scores, giving him a league-high 2,283 scrimmage yards and helping him earn AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors.

Barkley carried his stellar play into the postseason, racking up 499 rushing yards and five touchdowns across four games. He helped the Eagles avenge their Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs two years ago, as the team dominated the Chiefs 40-22 this time around.

Keeping Barkley in the fold with Tuesday's extension will cement the Eagles as one of the top title contenders for years to come.
