Toby Alderweireld to Tottenham: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More
Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Toby Alderweireld from Atletico Madrid.
The move was confirmed by the White Hart Lane club on their official Twitter feed:
Alderweireld, who has signed a five-year deal with Spurs, spent the 2014-15 campaign on loan at Southampton, where he quickly developed into a key player.
The Belgian can perform in central defence, right-back and in defensive midfield if needed, adding versatility to a Spurs squad which is stacked with potential.

He racked up 26 appearances last season, scoring one goal and averaging 1.7 tackles per game, as recorded by WhoScored.com. Alderweireld is a committed defender, someone who is always willing to put his body on the line for the team's cause.
Despite this, he made just 10 La Liga starts under Diego Simeone's tutelage at the Vicente Calderon. He is well-suited to the English game, where his physical, combative nature made him an integral part of Southampton's run to seventh last season. WhoScored.com underlined his importance:
Saints expected to take advantage of the player's loan deal and could initiate legal proceedings now that he has agreed to move to White Hart Lane, per Simon Peach of the Press Association and Sky Sports:
Alderweireld now has the opportunity to star alongside Belgian team-mate Jan Vertonghen, and the duo excelled during their time together at Ajax. He is looking forward to his new challenge:
Spurs will be looking to improve on last season's fifth-placed finish by qualifying for the Champions League. Alderweireld has plenty of experience in Europe's elite competition and possesses the quality to help Pochettino's men realise an extremely challenging objective.
The manager must now follow Alderweireld's capture with further big-name signings to make this a reality.
