Mike Vrabel: Patriots to Consider 'Every Option' with No. 4 Pick, Including Trade

Timothy RappFeb 27, 2025

The New England Patriots are keeping their options open with the No. 4 overall pick at the 2025 NFL draft.

Mike Vrabel appeared on NFL Network Thursday and said the team would "look at every option" with its first-round selection, including the possibility of trading it (h/t Evan Lazar of Patriots.com).

Because the Patriots addressed the quarterback position last offseason in the first round of the NFL draft with Drake Maye—who looks like a bonafide franchise quarterback—and because New England has plenty of needs around the roster, the team has the flexibility to simply take the best talent available at No. 4.

But they also have the flexibility to move back and accumulate future draft assets if a quarterback-needy team decides to move up the board to take either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders (if either player drops to No. 4).

While the Patriots will assuredly address a number of team needs in free agency, the draft also has some intriguing players at premium positions where the team could use an influx of talent

The Pats could focus on bolstering the offensive line with LSU offensive tackle Will Campbell. They need help at wideout, though Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan might be a bit of a reach at No. 4. They could use help at edge-rusher and might be hard-pressed to pass on Penn State's Abdul Carter if he fell to them, though Georgia's Jalon Walker might be a more realistic possibility. Cornerback is a need, though Michigan's Will Johnson could be seen as a slight reach at No. 4. Defensive tackle needs to be upgraded and Michigan's Mason Graham would do so nicely.

And of course, if Travis Hunter falls to No. 4, the Patriots could potentially upgrade both cornerback and receiver in one fell swoop.

Either way, the Patriots will be in position to improve their roster with a talented player. How the draft board shakes out will play a major role in which direction they choose to go.
