Wimbledon 2015: Tuesday All England Club Schedule and Bracket Predictions

Steven CookJul 6, 2015

A wild Monday that saw all 32 remaining contenders in action at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships has set the tone for the women's quarterfinals Tuesday as the final eight players will try to etch their spot in the semifinals.

Three Americans found their way through—two in surprise fashion. Top-seeded Serena Williams was obviously expected to be here, but No. 21 Madison Keys and unseeded phenom Coco Vandeweghe are blazing the unlikeliest of trails en route to the final days of the tournament.

The men will wait until Wednesday, which is all but necessary after No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 14 Kevin Anderson saw their round-of-16 match Monday postponed after four sets. Djokovic battled back from two sets down and will attempt to complete his comeback Tuesday morning as Wimbledon shared:

As far as quarterfinal matches go, Tuesday is all ladies, so take a look below at the schedule and predictions.

Tuesday, July 7 Schedule and Predictions

No. 4 Maria Sharapova vs. Coco VandewegheVandeweghe
No. 1 Serena Williams vs. No. 23 Victoria AzarenkaWilliams
No. 20 Garbine Muguruza vs. No. 15 Timea BacsinszkyBacsinszky
No. 21 Madison Keys vs. No. 13 Agnieszka RadwanskaKeys

No. 1 Serena Williams vs. No. 23 Victoria Azarenka

Serena Williams can thank her sister, Venus, for not making things too hard on her Monday, because she has a quick turnaround for an even tougher match Tuesday against 23rd-seeded Victoria Azarenka.

Inconsistency has plagued Williams throughout early Grand Slam fixtures despite not losing in one this year, but she was at her typical best against Venus on Monday. She smashed 10 aces while holding a 36-15 advantage in winners, only making 13 unforced errors in the process.

She'll have her hands full with Azarenka, though. The Belarus native hasn't dropped a set at Wimbledon, looking to match her semifinal appearances from 2011 and 2012. Azarenka also has some of the best successes against Williams in recent years, as Kevin Fischer of the Women's Tennis Association noted:

Azarenka can also look back to her last two appearances against Williams—both three-set losses—to prove she can take the American the distance, but breaking through has eluded her on the Grand Slam stage. This is their 10th meeting on the major level, and Williams is a perfect 9-0.

It's put up or shut up time for Azarenka, as she told the New York Times' Christopher Clarey:

Close indeed isn't good enough, but it is enough to wake Williams up and prove that she'll be up against a worthy opponent. That's typically all she needs to take her game up a notch to the level where she's practically unbeatable.

Williams may be 9-0 in Grand Slams against Azarenka, but many of those matches have been much too close for comfort for Williams. This should be the same way, albeit with a similar result.

Prediction: Williams wins in three sets

No. 21 Madison Keys vs. No. 13 Agnieszka Radwanska

Madison Keys' breakthrough year is taking further shape at Wimbledon over this memorable fortnight, and she'll look to continue it against 13th-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska in a gripping quarterfinal meeting.

It's a rematch of a fascinating bout from the 2013 Wimbledon, which featured the two playing in a round-of-32 affair that Radwanska edged out 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Radwanska has gone on to beat Keys once more, pushing her record against Keys to 3-0.

However, it goes without saying the American has taken her skills to another level and emerged as one of the game's best young players. She burst onto the scene with a semifinal appearance at the 2015 Australian Open and has overcome two three-set thrillers to get to this point.

But Keys will be hard-pressed to continue her big-serving ways against Radwanska. She's won over 50 percent of her receiving points in half her matches thus far and has failed to drop a single set.

Keys, 20, has been playing magnificent tennis thus far at Wimbledon, but she faces a former Wimbledon finalist who is on top of her game. Radwanska, 26, will showcase her experience and win in a tight affair.

Prediction: Radwanska wins in three sets

No. 4 Maria Sharapova vs. Coco Vandeweghe

One is at this point for the umpteenth time, and the other is here for her first time. But fourth-seeded Maria Sharapova and Coco Vandeweghe seem to be playing at a similarly dominant level throughout the first week of Wimbledon.

For Sharapova, it's seemingly been a typical display of her dominance as she's strolled through her opening four matches without dropping a single set or even being taken to a tiebreaker. But while quarterfinal appearances are nothing new for her, she's making some sort of a breakthrough, as ESPN Stats & Info shared:

Of course, Sharapova advancing to the final eight for the first time in four years pales in comparison to Vandeweghe's week at the All England Club. She's mounted upsets in just about every round, and it marks the first time that the 23-year-old has gotten past Round 3 at a major.

One of her biggest career wins came Monday against sixth-seeded Lucie Safarova, but shockingly, she wasn't happy at all with her performance, per Wimbledon.com's Ron Atkin

"

“One of the worst matches I have played so far. My serve was in and out but it was there when I needed it especially towards the end. But I kept calm and cool. When the tougher, longer rallies happened I was on the winning end more times than I wasn’t."

"

If that performance was that poor by her standards, perhaps we haven't seen the best of Vandeweghe. After all, she hasn't lost a single set in the tournament, either, which is fascinating considering she's been an underdog at almost every stage.

The young American has never faced Sharapova in her career, but from unabashed comments about American sports stars to dethroning former major champions, Vandeweghe has been absolutely fearless. Her play is reflecting that, and her sky-high confidence should be enough to frustrate Sharapova and mount the upset.

Prediction: Vandeweghe wins in three sets
