Bama Steve's Take On The Tide-Hokies
Seem like everybody is starting a blog about something. So me being a lifelong Alabama football fan I thought what the heck.
Let me start by saying that I'm not a writer and wasn't ever good in English classes. So pardon my spelling and grammer.
Anyway here's My Take On The game
As I watched the game I keep thinking that Bama is by far the best team but they were losing on the scoreboard. VT is a very good team. They don't give up and they are well coached. They continued to find ways to stay in the game. I was impressed with them for that reason. I don't think they will face another defence like Mcclain and company and should have a good season.
My favorite play was when Upchurch ran over the defender into the endzone. I think if he stays healthy he can have a breakout year.
Some suprises were that GMAC had 230 yds and Jones only had 46 yds of it, and that the VT qb only had 1 running play for a long gain. Bama's pass rush was good and controlled to be able to keep him bottled up. Taylor has tons of speed.
More positives
500 yards gained
only 150 yards given up
Ingram is better that expected
Defence maybe even better than expected
Maze/Hanks/Peek stepped up and hopefully will take the pressure off Julio down the road
Offensive line seem to get better late in the game
Some negatives
Kickoff Team was terrible
blown coverage on the long pass play, no one within 15 yds of the guy
to many penalties (come on 25 keep your head in the game)
Let VT hang around to long (to many field goal not enough TD's early)
Overall thoughts
As a Bama Fan I'm very happy with this game. The team played hard and just totally blew VT away in the 4th. While 1 game doesn't make a season it's a great start.
The start of the game looked shaky at time, I think breaking in a new QB and offensive line that's to be expected.
They really need to work on the Kickoff team and try to cut back on penalties. I'm sure that is a topic Coach Saban is stressing this week.
Anyway that's my 2 cents
