A.J.-Eagles Relationship 'Cordial'
The Saints hired former Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as head coach shortly after the team's Super Bowl LIX win.
NewOrleans.Football's Nick Underhill reported earlier Tuesday that Moore is also bringing former Eagles run game specialist and assistant offensive line coach T.J. Paganetti with him to the Saints.
After nine seasons as a college offensive coordinator, Nussmeier worked for five seasons with Moore on the Dallas Cowboys' staff.
Nussmeier then followed Moore to the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 and the Eagles in 2024 before joining him in the Big Easy.
This marks Nussmeier's first OC job at the NFL level. He has previous experience at the college level after spending time with Fresno State, Washington, Alabama, Michigan and Florida.
Maybe most importantly, he has years of experience working with Moore. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has previously credited both men with helping himself and the rest of Philadelphia's offense bounce back after struggles in 2023.
Nussmeier's experience working in Moore's system will be especially important considering the Saints' new head coach intends to continue calling offensive plays next season.
The Saints could potentially continue poaching more members of Nick Sirianni's staff. Eagles passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach Christian Parker is reportedly a candidate for the team's open defensive coordinator position.
ESPN's Jeremy Fowler previously reported that Eagles passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo was expected to receive consideration as the Saints' offensive coordinator. The Nussmeier hiring could mean Patullo has better odds of sticking around for a potential promotion in Philadelphia.
Hurts will meanwhile be tasked with adjusting to yet another coaching change in 2025 after previously working with Doug Pederson, Shane Steichen, Brian Johnson and Moore.
