WWE ID or WWE Independent Development is a program WWE officially announced back in October meant to aid in the recruitment and growth off indie wrestlers.

When WWE went public with the program on Oct. 29, Triple H declared the company's goal, saying: "WWE ID is the latest in our efforts to identify and support the journey of up-and-coming wrestlers, in turn raising the profile of and strengthening the independent wrestling ecosystem."

As part of the initial announcement, several wrestling schools were given an official WWE ID designation, including Booker T's Reality of Wrestling, Cody Rhodes' Nightmare Factory, Seth Rollins' Black and Brave Academy, Elite Pro Wrestling Training Center and KnokX Pro Academy.

WWE subsequently revealed several prominent independent wrestlers who signed on as WWE ID recruits, including Kylie Rae, Zayda Steel, Aaron Rourke and Bryce Donovan, among many others.

While not official WWE Superstars, the WWE ID prospects are on WWE's radar and conceivably have a much clearer path to WWE than other indie wrestlers.

In many ways, WWE ID is a branch of the WWE Next In Line NIL program, which was created in 2021. WWE NIL identifies college athletes from other sports and gives them a chance to eventually develop into WWE Superstars.

It isn't yet clear how the WWE ID Men's and Women's Championships will be deployed and utilized, but it stands to reason that the inaugural champions will be able to defend the titles against other WWE ID prospects on select independent shows.

That figures to increase WWE's presence on the independent scene, while adding importance and prestige to the indie matches that WWE ID talent compete in.
