Jimmy Uso Must Be Used in WWE Storylines During Jey Uso's Absence

Jimmy Uso continues to display his colorful personality on commentary during WWE broadcasts.

Subbing in for Byron Saxton this past week on SmackDown, Uso seemed comfortable and added a down-to-earth vibe to the usually formulaic announce desk.

WWE is unique from other sports in that active competitors have contributed to commentary. This allows fans to hear a fresh perspective from a current WWE Superstar. But while this adds a different dynamic to SmackDown, Uso’s silver-tongued charisma is being wasted as an exclusive commentator.

While Uso has been a tag team competitor his entire career, he is more than capable of holding his own while his brother and partner Jey heals from rotator-cuff surgery.

The Usos aren’t the only tag team that has been affected by injury. Injuries are widespread in the division. With Tyson Kidd and Erik Rowan sidelined, the door is open for WWE to mix and match.

Cesaro, an elite tag team performer, could shine alongside Uso as a fan-friendly unit. The combination of Uso’s high-flying skills and Cesaro’s physical, strongman style can be better than anything the two did with their previous partners, which is saying a lot.

Uso might be a better fit as a singles performer with ties to his wife, Naomi. A storyline between the two could add depth and meaning to two undercooked characters. WWE struggles to establish Divas as strong heels or babyfaces. As I mentioned on the PodNasty Wrestling Podcast, on a week-to-week basis, it is difficult to determine a consistent motivation.

At WWE Money in the Bank, The Bella Twins played heels, as they used dirty tactics to defeat Paige. Paige was being booked as a martyr of sorts, fighting to end the Bella dynasty.

However, this past week on SmackDown, Brie Bella competed as a babyface against Naomi. WWE further blurred the lines between good and evil when Brie won the match following outside interference from ally Alicia Fox.

So for whom should the fans be cheering?

If a babyface singles run for Jimmy Uso intertwined with his heel wife Naomi's storyline, fans would gain more insight into Naomi’s reasoning for being a villain. The likable Uso would be the perfect foil for a heel Naomi to further develop her character.

Instead, Uso was made to awkwardly observe and report as Naomi suffered a shady loss.

After a great run as a tag team wrestler, Uso’s all-around talents are being overlooked. Through commentary, and even a starring role on Total Divas, he has shown the ability to stand out on his own.
