Report: Kellen Moore, Saints Eye Doug Nussmeier as OC, Brandon Staley as DC

Zach BacharFeb 16, 2025

The New Orleans Saints reportedly have multiple interviews lined up to build the team's staff under new head coach Kellen Moore.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Saints are set to interview Brandon Staley for their defensive coordinator vacancy on Sunday and will also meet with Doug Nussmeier regarding their offensive coordinator opening "early this week."

Staley was previously head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers from 2021-23, while Nussmeier served as the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterbacks coach in 2024.

The Saints are looking to fill both coordinator roles for the 2025 season, with former offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak joining the Seattle Seahawks and former defensive coordinator Joe Woods becoming a member of the Las Vegas Raiders' staff.

Both Nussmeier and Staley have previous ties to Moore, who was hired by New Orleans on Tuesday after spending the 2024 season as Philadelphia's offensive coordinator.

Nussmeier and Moore have been part of the same coaching staff in each season since 2018, starting with the Dallas Cowboys from 2018-22 and continuing on the Chargers in 2023 before the pair joined the Eagles together.

Moore's quick stint as Los Angeles' offensive coordinator for the 2023 season occurred under Staley.

The Saints have already interviewed Minnesota Vikings pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach Daronte Jones for their defensive coordinator vacancy, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero also reported that New Orleans will be interviewing Miami Dolphins wide receiver coach Robert Prince for offensive coordinator.

The Saints are looking to end a four-year playoff drought, coming off a disappointing 5-12 finish in 2024. It represented the team's worst record since the 2005 season.

As Moore enters his first year as head coach, he's scheduled to meet with two familiar faces.
