Nick Sirianni, Eagles Agree to Multi-Year Contract After Super Bowl 59 Win vs. Chiefs

Adam WellsMay 19, 2025

After a terrific rebound season in 2024 that culminated in a Super Bowl 59 victory, the Philadelphia Eagles are retaining Nick Sirianni as their head coach.

The Eagles announced Monday they signed the 43-year-old to a multi-year extension.

After losing six of their final seven games during the 2023 season, including a 32-9 defeat against the Bucs in the NFC Wild Card Game, Sirianni and the Eagles were under a microscope in 2024.

They had a pedestrian 2-2 start before hitting another gear coming out of their Week 5 bye.

Following a 33-16 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4, Sirianni was facing questions about his job status.

"No, I'm just worried about getting the team better," Sirianni told 94WIP Sports on Oct. 1 when asked if he was concerned (h/t Patrick McAvoy of SI.com). "You can't worry about any of those different things. Right now, we're 2-2. Just put my head down and work."

The Eagles responded by winning 12 of their final 13 games to win the NFC East for the second time in three years, and then turned in a dominant playoff run in which they outscored their four opponents 145-77 en route to winning Super Bowl 59.

Philadelphia ranked in the top seven in both points scored and points allowed in the regular season. Saquon Barkley turned in one of the best seasons ever by a running back with 2,005 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns in 16 starts.

Sirianni's resume since being hired by the Eagles is as strong as any head coach in the NFL. Their 48 wins since 2021 are tied for the second-most in the NFL during that span.

There were some bumps along the way, primarily in the back half of the 2023 season.

Philadelphia finished the 2023 regular season by losing five of its last six games. The collapse was highlighted by a 27-10 loss to the New York Giants in Week 18 when the Eagles were still competing to win the NFC East.

Also during that late-season collapse, there appeared to be issues behind the scenes with the players being unhappy and coaching changes. Jalen Hurts' comments about Sirianni early in the 2024 campaign at least suggested things were a little icy between the two.

The combination of a terrific 2024 draft class and hiring Vic Fangio as defensive coordinator injected a lot of life into this roster. Cooper DeJean and Quinyon Mitchell transformed the secondary.

The dynamic between Hurts and Sirianni, which had been described as "fractured" and "unhealthy" coming into last year, seemed to improve over the course of the season.

Given how good the Eagles have been under Sirianni, particularly in 2022 and 2024, it didn't make much sense to make a change just for the sake of change. This is a loaded roster that figures to be among the best teams in the NFC once again next season.

Hurts is one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in the league. Brown and DeVonta Smith are arguably the best receiver duo in the NFL. Barkley and Dallas Goedert are among the best players at their respective positions. Their defensive line has a lot of young talent, led by Jalen Carter.

Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman have found a rapport that is working great for the franchise. The Eagles are one of the standard-bearers in the NFL, with no signs of slowing down.

Overall, Sirianni has been very successful in his first three-plus seasons as Eagles head coach. He owns a 48-20 record with four playoff appearances, two trips to the Super Bowl and a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 9 to win the franchise's second Lombardi Trophy.
