Manchester United Transfer News: Latest Rumours on Louis Van Gaal's Top Targets
The news of Sergio Ramos' discontent at Real Madrid continues to dominate Manchester United transfer headlines this week and fans will also be glad of reports that contact has been made for Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane.
Ramos has already rejected a contract offer from Real in recent months and Spanish newspaper AS quoted the defender on Sunday, confirming that he currently is not in negotiations with any clubs:
Ramos is due back at Real Madrid for pre-season training on Monday and United fans can at least take comfort in knowing the centre-back target is not in talks to extend his deal at the Bernabeu.
Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News wrote that Louis van Gaal's side have already seen a bid of £34 million rejected for the 29-year-old and Bleacher Report's Andy Brassell doesn't see the move materialising:
With Los Merengues in pursuit of Spain goalkeeper David De Gea, it seems increasingly likely United will seek to use their No. 1 as bait in order to lure Ramos to Old Trafford.
William Hill's Tony Kenny recently confirmed the results of an AS poll, stating that a majority of Real Madrid fans voted for the club to sell Ramos, rather than keep him past this summer:
Real manager Rafa Benitez will assuredly be hoping to see the 2010 World Cup winner remain in Spain's capital, but Ramos appears set on a summer departure.
AS have even gone so far as to report this week's unveiling of right-back Danilo as a Real Madrid player may come behind closed doors out of fear fans may use the occasion to protest the handling of Ramos:
The furore currently unfolding at Real works in United's favour as they look to bring in a classier breed of centre-back, who would most likely partner Marcos Rojo ahead of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans or Chris Smalling.
However, any sort of agreement between the two sides doesn't seem likely to reached soon, with De Gea's potential return to Spain likely to play a larger role in the transfer as the weeks pass by.
'Contact Made' Over Spurs Star Harry Kane

The striker setup at Manchester United is poised for a dramatic change, it seems, after the club were reported to have made contact with Tottenham regarding a £40 million move for Kane.
According to the Sun (via Adam Skinner of the Daily Express) Van Gaal's side are ready to begin their surge for the England international after choosing not to make Radamel Falcao's stay at the club permanent.
The club's decision to bring in attacking reinforcement will also be influenced in Robin van Persie's supposed Old Trafford exit, having struggled to live up to his initial Old Trafford hype.
According to the Guardian, Van Persie could be set for a £5 million move to Super Lig giants Fenerbahce, where he would seek to tie down his place in the Netherlands team ahead of Euro 2016:
Kane dazzled the Premier League with his 21 goals in 34 league appearances last term, earning his first call-ups to Roy Hodgson's Three Lions squad.
However, the Sun's Massimo Marioni doesn't agree with the value placed upon Kane, describing it as "absolutely insane" to invest so much in the 21-year-old:
It may be that Van Persie's potential move out of Van Gaal's side will decide how swiftly United are able to follow up on their interest in Kane. The Mirror's Simon Mullock reports the Dutchman is demanding a £12 million payoff—the value of the last year of his contract—to leave this summer.
Based on last season's performances, Kane could well prove to be an attacking icon for the Premier League and England for years to come, and United look set to make their first probes for his signature.
