Tiger Woods at Greenbrier Classic 2015: Friday Leaderboard Score, Reaction

Tiger Woods is trying to regain any trace of the spark that made him the most formidable golfer in the world for over a decade. But a dismal stretch of play, especially this year, has dropped his world ranking to 220th. 

He has a chance to boost that number a bit at The Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia this week after shooting a four-under par on Thursday's first round.

In Friday's Round 2, Woods shot a one-under 69 to lower his score to five-under par on the tournament, making the cut at The Greenbrier Classic. And while it's two days of solid golf, the Golf Channel's Kelly Tilghman wants to make sure no one is jumping to conclusions:

Woods appeared to have started right where he left off on a Thursday that was his best round of the season. Looking up at those ahead of the golfer, Tilghman pointed out that Woods might have a bit more experience than the golfers he is chasing:

Friday provided a nice start for Woods. A birdie on two put him at five-under for the tournament with an approach shot that settled a couple feet from the hole as the PGA Tour's replay shows: 

He managed to par the rest of the front nine and, as the PGA Tour showed, he seemed to be cruising to a solid day at Greenbrier: 

But then he hit the back nine and consistency suddenly left him. Starting on 11, he flip-flopped bogeys for birdies on four straight holes. Bogeying the 11th, he was able to come back strong on the 12th, helping him set up for an eagle putt he wound up missing. He still managed to birdie.

After a bogey on 16, Woods drove his tee shot into the water on 17 but managed to bounce back and par the hole, though he almost birdied from a considerable distance: 

He ended the day on a high note with a birdie on 18. ESPN's Jason Sobel viewed Woods' outing as a positive one: 

Despite his improving play this week, Woods declined to speak with the media, according to Sobel. 

Woods will aim to keep momentum going during Saturday's third round. Tied for 26th, four strokes back of leader Jhonattan Vegas, Woods will try to make his way toward uncharted territory this year: the top of the leaderboard. 

In order to do so, he will have to keep his accuracy when it comes to hitting greens. Woods has hit 77.78 percent of his greens in regulation, well above the tour average of 68.83 percent. His approach play will be imperative, especially if his putting game is off. If there is a dip in those green numbers, don't expect to see Woods keeping up with the leaders on Saturday.
