Phil Walsh, Adelaide Crows Coach, Killed at 55 as Son Cy Is Charged with Murder

Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh was allegedly murdered Friday, reported by Michael Ramsey of the Advertiser.

BBC News confirmed the arrest of Walsh's son, who has been charged with murder.

South Australia Police revealed ambulance crews arrived in the Somerton Park suburb at 2 a.m. ACST but were unable to save Walsh. His wife also suffered injuries and is recovering at a local hospital.

"There's been an argument. I can't tell you anything about the argument...but as a result of that both Mr Walsh and his wife received a wound and the wound ultimately caused Mr Walsh's death," a South Australia detective said, relayed by BBC News.

Walsh's son, Cy Walsh, is under sedation at the Flinders Medical Centre and his lawyer, Rebecca Gristwood, per ABC Australiamade no application for bail on his behalf"He's currently sedated and I haven't been able to take further instruction from him other than this morning," she told magistrate Sue O'Connor.

According to ABC Grandstand, Adelaide's game with Geelong in the AFL's round of 14 will be cancelled.

Crows chairman Rob Chapman told reporters, relayed by Yahoo: "This is a crisis unprecedented. There is no rule book, and we are dealing with it."

Walsh spent time with Collingwood, Richmond and the Brisbane Bears during his eight-year playing career. When he stepped away from the game in 1990, he took a variety of different staff roles throughout the Australian Football League.

In October 2014, Adelaide named him its senior coach. In his 12 games in charge of the Crows, the team posted seven wins and five losses.
