Wimbledon 2015 Results: Thursday Scores and Friday Bracket Predictions
The first big name in the men's singles draw came crashing down Thursday in second-round play at the 2015 Wimbledon Championships, setting the tone for an inevitably wacky first weekend at the All England Club.
Rafael Nadal's shocking defeat to qualifier Dustin Brown on Thursday shocked the world of tennis much more than any No. 10 seed has done at a Grand Slam setting in recent memory. It marked the Spaniard great's first major loss to a qualifying player and marked the third time in four years that he's failed to get out of the second round at Wimbledon.
Elsewhere, eighth-seeded Ekaterina Makarova and No. 17 Elina Svitolina were the only notables on the women's side to fall Thursday, as others punched their tickets to Round 3.

No. 1 Novak Djokovic vs. No. 27 Bernard Tomic

Top-seeded Novak Djokovic's draw is getting tougher, as he faces No. 27 Bernard Tomic, his first seeded opponent of the tournament and one who has proved to be tricky on grass.
Djokovic drew a difficult opening two matches against Philipp Kohlschreiber and Jarkko Nieminen and still scoffed at the challenge. He won both in straight sets, exerting his dominance from the onset.
The grass courts have been the best setting for the 22-year-old Tomic in his career, who made his emergence at Wimbledon in 2011 in the quarterfinals. Coincidentally enough, it took Djokovic in that round to end Tomic's run.
He hasn't made it that far at Wimbledon—or any Grand Slam—since, but he's been toppled by worthy foes in each year (David Goffin, Richard Gasquet and Tomas Berdych). Tomic has had a tough time just getting to this point, though, being taken to five sets in Round 1.
Just like four years ago, Djokovic will be the one to end Tomic's run at Wimbledon. But just like in that match, Tomic will be able to steal a set from the Serbian.
Prediction: Djokovic wins, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3
No. 6 Lucie Safarova vs. Sloane Stephens

She's just over a month removed from being a set away from the French Open title, and the post-Roland Garros hangover seems to be hitting sixth-seeded Lucie Safarova hard at Wimbledon. She was taken to three sets in a marathon opener before getting back to form in Round 2.
She had better hope those struggles are in the past, because Sloane Stephens lurks Thursday and looks ready to steal the spotlight.
Draws haven't been kind to the young American at Grand Slam events in 2015, having drawn difficult opposition as an unseeded contender. But she rose up past another in Round 1 against Barbora Strycova, as New York Times' Ben Rothenberg noted, and she followed that up with a straight-set win over Lauren Davis:
Safarova's experience at Grand Slam events in 2015 has been a mixed bag as well, as she was ousted in the first round at the Australian Open before advancing to the final at Roland Garros. Stephens will make it difficult to get any further, but Safarova can turn to her previous success against her.
Safarova topped Stephens in the round of 32 at Dubai last year, doing so in straight sets. Stephens should be expected to force a third set in this one with her game at a high level, but she won't do enough to oust the No. 6 seed.
Prediction: Safarova wins, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3
No. 7 Milos Raonic vs. No. 26 Nick Kyrgios

Australia youngster Nick Kyrgios will attempt to continue his in-form start to Wimbledon in his third-round match, assuming the underdog status Thursday against seventh-seeded Milos Raonic.
Kyrgios doesn't have to look back far for happy memories from Wimbledon, having toppled Rafael Nadal there in 2014—which marked his ascension from the outskirts of the top 150 to the 26th seed in this year's tournament. He's channeled that success this year, beating his first two opponents in straight sets.
But he goes up against an opponent Thursday with much more experience on the Grand Slam stage, and Raonic has begun his play in style, as Jon Wertheim of X noted:
Kyrgios has faced Raonic twice—both on the Grand Slam stage—and was unsuccessful both times, but he made strides from one occasion to the next. After being manhandled by Raonic in the 2014 French Open, he won the opening set against him before falling in four sets at Wimbledon just over a month later.
With the Aussie smashing his serve at the moment and running the baseline with ferocity, one can expect him to improve again. But Raonic will answer the call in a fifth and decisive set, sealing a tight victory to move ahead.
Prediction: Raonic wins, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4
