Week 1: NFL Predictions, Who Gets It Done, The Quick Read!

Louis PisanoSep 9, 2009

The season is starting and the blood pressure will be rising as soon as the ball is kicked-off. Keeping that under control is done by making smart picks for your cash. Sometimes you gotta move the lines for a little less loot.

Here’s this week’s picks (Lines from Bet365.com on Wed 3:30 pm EST).

Titans @ Steelers -6 O/U 35

Healthy Ben equals bigger yards through the air, redemption for last years 31-14 loss leads to a squeaker for the dominant home Steelers.

Steelers win 20-17

Dolphins @ Falcons -4 U/O 43.5

The cat is out of the bag and defensive coordinators have been on the lookout, no one is going to be caught off guard this year. Matt Ryan slings and Michael Turner runs wild in the win for Atlanta.

Falcons win 27-17

Chiefs @ Ravens -13 O/U 36

Joe Flacco is going to get a longer leash this year which equates to more points on the board, Ravens D continues to dominate and force turnovers against the injury riddled Chiefs.

Ravens win 34-6

Eagles @ Panthers +1.5 U/O 43.5

Wily veterans QBs Donavan McNabb and Jake Delhomme can still get it done and know how to protect the ball. The Eagles screen passes, edge out the Panthers over aggressive blitzes from the ends in Eagles win.

Eagles win 37-16

Broncos @ Bengals-4 U/O 43

Two teams in transition. Cincinnati isn’t going to be as bad as everyone thinks but the Bronco’s may be. Bengals D-line is still pretty bad but the rest of the D can hang. New defensive coordinator Nolan has installed the 3-4 D on a team that might not be suited for it and it will take time to figure out. Ocho Cinco should thrive with a healthy Palmer.

Bengals win 23-17

Vikings @ Browns +4 O/U 40

If the Browns score any points on Minnys D I’ll be surprised in what is sure to be a blowout. AP once past the D-line runs wild on the Browns weak line backing core and secondary. Props, Longest Rush OVER whatever it is! Brett slings a couple to the endzone after AP torches the D.

Vikings win 33-6

Jets @ Texans -4.5 O/U 43.5

Rookie QB Mark Sanchez is going to get his first taste of the NFL behind a half decent O-line but that’s where this offence with a fairly weak running game and receiving core quits, though he is going up against a very weak secondary. Mario Williams will look to get his hands on the rookie. WR Andre Johnson may have a tough time against a fairly good secondary and Steve Slaton won’t run wild but should pick up some yards in a tight one.

Texans win 24-20

Jaguars @ Colts -7 U/O 44

Maurice Jones-Drew seems to be a high pick in this years fantasy pools and the Jags will have to run well against Indy because their secondary is a tough one, and Garrard ain’t great and neither is the receiving core with the elderly Tory Holt. Peyton picks apart the weak defence of the Jags and Indy’s first round pick Rookie running back Donald Brown shows he’s got the right stuff when he gets his chances.

Colts win 38-20

Lions @ Saints -13 O/U 49

It’s Shockeyly Breezy in the Bush in New Orleans and it’s getting Colston out. The offensive juggernaut is ready to rumble, in its way -the toothless yet not clawless 0-16 Lions who have improved and won’t go winless this year. They won’t even get a sniff of a win in this game but should put up some points with a great receiver Calvin Johnson and an excellent young running back Kevin Smith.

Saints win 37- 23

Cowboys @ Buccaneers +6 O/U 39

The now TO-less Boys not starting the season at their new bazillion dollar facility are facing a perennial tough team to play at home that has become a whirlwind of question marks. New everything for the Bucs somewhat makes them quite a difficult team to read. Dallas is ready and the Bucs aren’t.

Cowboys win 27-13

49ers @ Cardinals -6.5 O/U 46.5

Larry Daryl and my other brother Daryl will test the half decent secondary along with the Hightower in short yardage testing the line. The 9ers will have to Gore their way through this game but will end up being behind and not be able to use their best weapon.

Cardinals win 37-10

Rams @ Seahawks -8.5 O/U 41

Seattle has improved with T.J. "WhosYourDaddy" and a healthy Hasselbeck as well they have a heck of a tough line-backing core on the other side. The Rams seem to come out of the gate in a daze each year and the Hawks are looking for prey. Jackson will be the bulk of the offence for the Rams and may break a couple but it won’t be enough.

Seahawks win 24-13

Bears @ Packers -3.5 O/U 46.5

Cut Cut your way to wins if it’s your Forte! Da Bears, now with their first legit quarterback since they won the Super Bowl way back when, battle with the Pack lead by Aaron Rogers who has put to rest number four in G-Bay and should have another great year.

This tough divisional test off the hop will be telling. Driver Jennings and Lee will have a good season with Rogers. Hester is always an X-Factor! This should come down to D and who can get the stops.

Packers win 34-20

Bills @ Patriots -10.5 O/U 47.5

Brady to Moss to Welker to Galloway to the endzone TD TD TD and Morris to the house too TD. Welcome back Mr. Brady here’s your throne! This game of premier receivers needs someone to throw the ball to them, Edwards or Brady. Bills rookie O-line, Belichick’s schemes. I’ll take the Pats.

Patriots win 34-13

Chargers @ Raiders +9 O/U 43

The CharJa’s looking to win this weak division should with LT and Sproles leading the attack together on the ground. This good looking offense seems to start slow each year but will find the holes on this tumultuous Raiders team. Darrius Heyward-Bey is a fast receiver that will stretch the field and McFadden will get his yards on the ground. This year lightening strikes early and right in the black hole!

Chargers win 27-13

And if you believe any of that I have some swam...I mean beautiful land in Florida for ya!

Ship it send it chalk it and lock it! From the King of Roncesvalles to your sports books good luck boys! All the best!
