Lamar Jackson Fine After Exiting Ravens Practice With Apparent Injury

Timothy RappAug 20, 2025

Any hope the Baltimore Ravens have of winning the Super Bowl this season hinges entirely on the health of Lamar Jackson. There was a brief moment of concern when Jackson left practice early on Wednesday, but the Ravens quickly let it be known that the signal-caller was fine, via The Athletic's Jeff Zrebiec:

That's good news for Baltimore, as it initially appeared as though Jackson was having issues with his right wrist or hand:

Jackson didn't participate in Thursday's practice after Wednesday's scare.

Jackson, 28, put together an MVP-worthy season in 2024, throwing for 4,172 yards, 41 touchdowns and just four interceptions while completing 66.7 percent of his passes and taking 23 sacks. He also rushed for 915 yards and four scores.

While he was neck-and-neck with Josh Allen in the MVP conversation for much of the season, Jackson became the prohibitive favorite for the award after he was named a first-team All-Pro at quarterback over his Buffalo Bills' counterpart.

In a bit of a surprise, however, Allen ultimately won the MVP.

For much of the 2024 season, the Ravens leaned on the dynamic duo of Jackson and star running back Derrick Henry. The latter rushed for 1,921 yards and 16 touchdowns in his debut season with the Ravens, adding a new dimension to the offense, while the trio of Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman paced the passing attack.

But the entire operation is completely reliant on Jackson's unique playmaking ability. There isn't an offensive weapon quite like him in the NFL, and everybody in the NFL's orbit knows it.

"It's a great team, it's a great quarterback, obviously, with Lamar, what he's able to do," Allen said before his team's matchup with Baltimore in the AFC Divisional Round last season. "He's one of the most dynamic, if not the most dynamic quarterback in the league. He's so fun to watch..."

If Jackson is ultimately sidelined at all in the 2025 campaign, Cooper Rush would step into the starting role. He's seen plenty of playing time in recent seasons for the Dallas Cowboys and is one of the more experienced backups in the league.
