Wimbledon 2015: Twitter Reacts to Wednesday's Bracket Results, Scores, Winners
Trends continued, top players moved on, a pair of famous sisters took one step closer to facing each other and everybody left in a pool of sweat as record-setting temperatures left everyone feeling a bit drained, spectators included, during Wednesday's action at Wimbledon.
On the women's side of the draw, Serena and Venus Williams each moved on, the former beating Timea Babos 6-4, 6-1 while the latter struggled against the pesky Yulia Putintseva, 7-6, 6-4. That drew the two closer to a showdown, per Christopher Clarey of the New York Times:

It also helped Venus reach quite the milestone, per Wimbledon on Twitter:
While Venus will face Aleksandra Krunic in the third round, Serena will take on Heather Watson, who isn't shying away from the challenge:
Perhaps she should be a bit nervous, however, given the way Serena has been playing, per Howard Bryant of ESPN:
Meanwhile, the women's game continued to feature a series of upsets, as No. 7 Ana Ivanovic, No. 11 Karolina Pliskova and No. 19 Sara Errani all fell on the day.
Ivanovic's upset was perhaps the easiest to see coming, per tennis podcaster Courtney Nguyen:
It may not have been a great day for many of the top seeds in the women's draw, but the Americans certainly fared well, as Matt Cronin UTSA.com tweeted:
The top seeds falling early in tournaments—outside of Serena Williams, of course—has become quite a trend in the women's game, however, namely at this year's Grand Slams, so Wednesday's upsets weren't exactly shocking.
The men's side, meanwhile, continues to be dominated by the elite players, and that didn't change on Wednesday, as No. 1 Novak Djokovic, No. 4 Stan Wawrinka, No. 7 Milos Raonic, No. 9 Marin Cilic and No. 11 Grigor Dimitrov all advanced, among others.
Cilic was given the toughest test, as Ricardas Berankis took him to five sets. After, Cilic was visibly relieved, per Wimbledon on Twitter:
Meanwhile, the day's top story on the men's draw happened off of the grass, as No. 5 Kei Nishikori had to withdraw because of an injury. That withdrawal could favor one player in particular, per Jon Wertheim of SI.com:
Nishikori spoke of missing the tournament, per SI Tennis on Twitter:
Thursday's action promises to be just as exciting—if not so hot—as players such as Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Tomas Berdych, Agnieszka Radwanska, Ekaterina Makarova, Caroline Wozniacki and Angelique Kerber, among others, take the court.
Don't be surprised if a few of the top seeds on the women's side fall. The trend continued on Wednesday, and at this point only Serena Williams seems safe.
