Earl Thomas Surprises HS Sweetheart with Proposal at Youth Football Camp

Seattle Seahawks safety and bipedal satchel charge Earl Thomas pulled a fast one over the weekend with a surprise proposal for his longtime girlfriend, Nina.

KFDM.com (h/t Seahawks.com's John Boyle) reports Thomas dropped the knee Friday in his hometown of Orange, Texas, after a day of coaching local youths at his free football camp.

Thomas says he hadn't planned to pop the question beforehand but was feeling so good he told his agent to grab the ring he'd been saving for a special occasion.

"Nobody knew," Thomas said. "I just told my agent, get the ring out of the car. So I did it."

"That's my high school sweetheart," Thomas said. "I was thinking to myself, I think I come alive when I'm around this type of environment, so what a perfect way to top this off...we were there, me and her."

Judging by pictures taken at the event, the proposal was ridiculously adorable:

KFDM interviewed Thomas afterward. Between reaching out to the kids and taking the next step with Nina, he seemed more than a little overcome with emotion:

Nina, mother to their daughter, Kaleigh Rose, is already hard at work on wedding preparations. 

In related news, Thomas' teammate, Richard Sherman, might also be getting married in the near future.

Boyle notes Sherman recently referred to his longtime girlfriend as his "fiance" for the first time in an Instagram post while on vacation in Maui. 

Boyle then promptly coined perhaps the worst and best football pun of all football puns:

"Soon enough, Seattle's secondary might be known as the 'Legion of Groom,'" Boyle wrote.

Well done, John. I'm clapping and groaning at the same time. That one hurts so good.
