WWE Battleground 2015: Predicting Winners for All Projected Title Matches

Aaron BowerJul 1, 2015

With four titles on the line at Battleground at the moment, there appear to be a few changes coming to the WWE landscapeย in the next few weeks.

Some titles are newly won and may not necessarily switch hands, but others look like they could be heading for new owners following the conclusion of WWE Battleground.

A Divas Championship match will likely follow, but with the other four title matches confirmed for Battleground, here are the likely winners of the upcoming bouts.

Tag Team Championships

The Prime Time Players will defend their newly won tag titles at Battleground against the very men they took them from, The New Day.

Given how they waited a long, long time to becomeย tag team champions, the thought of them losing the belts in their first defence seems illogical.

There's not a lot to add here. The New Day will remain the main challengers for The Prime Time Players, and hopefully a solid rivalry will develop if enough effort is invested in the storyline.

Titus O'Neil and Darren Young have more than served their apprenticeship in the division, and they deserve a lengthy run as champs. There's no reason why The New Day should win in this instance.

Intercontinental Championship

Much like The Prime Time Players, Ryback is a fairly new major champion, having recently won the Intercontinental Championship at Elimination Chamber.

It came as a major surprise when The Big Guy won the belt amongst some stiff competition, but he's gradually developing into an interesting and likeable champion.

Allowingย Rybackย to have more personality on the microphone seems to be endearing him to WWE fans, and he looks set for a decent run as ICย champ.

Having him drop the belt to either Big Show or The Miz doesn't really seem right, and it would certainly seem like a step back after boldly pushingย Ryback over stars like Dolph Zigglerย in that Elimination Chamber match.

Therefore, expect a good, solid title retention from Ryback.

United States Championship

The other two title bouts at Battleground contain arguably the biggest and most interesting matches on the card.

John Cena will finally put his United States Championship on the line against Kevin Owens, with the score tied up at one win each from their recent meetings.

It's a tough match to call, especially given how if Owens wins, he would be defeating the biggest name in the company in Cena.

But this feels like Owens' time. Cena's open challenges have done wonders in terms of restoring prestige and relevance to a belt that felt neglected in the past, but the time is right for him to pass it on.

And in Kevin Owens, the WWE have a ready-made star to continue the good work Cena did with the belt. If Owens loses to Finn Balor in Japan this weekend, that will only further serve as an indication that Owens will win at Battleground and make a permanent leap to the main roster as United States champion.

World Heavyweight Championship

Brock Lesnar's return to TV hasn't come a moment too soon, given the explosive way in which he was written off the night after WrestleMania.

Keeping the belt on Seth Rollins throughout Lesnar's absence now appears to have been a shrewd move, as it now sets up a thrilling bout between the two at Battleground.

Similarly, keeping Lesnar out of the ring (on TV at least) cranks up the interest and hype for this match, and it's a bout in which either man could prevail.

There is logic in keeping the belt on Rollins. It would keep his momentum going and could possibly reopen the door for him to feud with Dean Ambrose for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship again in the future.

But the smart money here could well be on Brock Lesnar. It seems unlikely that he will lose cleanly to Rollins, which means only another numbers game-style job from The Authority will deny him the win.

Lesnar is much better than that, and chances are he will get his revenge by going through everyone possible to capture the strap again.ย
