Tyler Breeze, 'Superstar' Billy Graham and Latest WWE NXT Developmental News
Tyler Breeze is one of many WWE NXT prospects who would get a chance to learn the art of the promo with "Superstar" Billy Graham if the Hall of Famer gets the job for which he's thrown in his hat.
Breeze has stayed busy thanks to opportunities alongside the main roster coming his way. Whether or not that is a precursor to a promotion remains to be seen. As for Graham, he clearly wants to be busy as well, as he petitions to be a coach at the WWE Performance Center.
In other WWE developmental news, the Performance Center welcomed a luchadora, the company released a prospect, and an influx of potential new additions to the NXT roster just entered the free-agent market.
NXT Prospect Released
1 of 5Before he made it to NXT TV and before his WWE career really got started, Kamel Dickinson is done as a wrestler.
Dickinson tweeted, "Thanks everyone, but I have been released from WWE. I suffered multiple concussions while here and as a result I'm retiring from wrestling."
Hailing from Bermuda, he sought to make history as the first WWE star from that island nation. Unfortunately, concussions were an issue for him before he signed with WWE. He told the Royal Gazette last year that after a match with Ring of Honor, he was "concussed for about a week."
This has to be deeply disappointing news for Dickinson. He joins Corey Graves and Christopher Nowinski as men who hung up their boots early because of head injuries.
Hall of Famer Expresses Interest in Dusty Rhodes' NXT Gig
2 of 5Dusty Rhodes worked with NXT's prospects, looking to teach them the magic of engaging fans with a wrestling promo. After his death, one Hall of Famer wants to replace another in that same position.
"Superstar" Billy Graham has made it clear that he wants to try to fill Rhodes' shoes. Graham posted on Facebook, confirming his interest in NXT.
He wrote, "I sent an email directly to Vince informing him that if the position that Dusty once had has not yet been filled, that I am very much interested in taking it since I am moving back to live in Florida."
While Graham was a standout mic worker and a top-tier star, it seems unlikely that WWE hires him. He has often been heavily critical of today's WWE on his Facebook account. And he once posted (h/t Wrestling Inc) that he wanted to be removed from WWE's Hall of Fame.
Several TNA Wrestlers Now Free Agents
3 of 5WWE doesn't typically sign TNA guys, but it certainly has quite a few to pick from if it decides to in the near future.
A mass exodus is happening with Dixie Carter's company. As Gunner explained on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast, he has now moved on from TNA. In a press release (h/t Wrestling Inc), Austin Aries revealed that his TNA contract has expired and that he has now entered a partnership with The Regime, a talent agency based in Los Angeles. PWInsider (h/t Wrestle Zone) reported that James Storm and Magnus asked to be let out of their contracts as well.
Magnus has since signed with Global Force Wrestling, as the promotion announced on its website. That still leaves some intriguing options for NXT officials.
If WWE goes against its usual anti-TNA philosophy, it can add depth and talent to its developmental roster. Those guys may feel that they deserve to be on the main roster, though.
NXT did welcome Samoa Joe already. Gunner, Storm and Aries would be fun additions should they follow him.
CMLL Wrestler, Former TNA Talent Coaches Prospects at WWE Performance Center
4 of 5The women at NXT are learning from a well-traveled veteran. Sarah Stock, who has also wrestled as Dark Angel and Sarita, served as a coach this week.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestle Zone) reports that Stock was at the Performance Center in order to work with some of the developmental talent.
Stock has offered her expertise before. It's a welcome sign that WWE is bringing in someone who is adept at the Lucha Libre wrestling style. Should she pass that knowledge down to the NXT women's division, fans can expect more high-flying and electric moves from the likes of Dana Brooke and Carmella.
This is yet another example of the difference in commitment in the division with NXT as opposed to WWE proper.
Tyler Breeze Works WWE Events
5 of 5Tyler Breeze traveled and competed with the main roster this week. As a result, fans outside of NXT got to see Prince Pretty at work.
A PWTorch report of the WWE house show in Roanoke, Virginia, over the weekend noted that Breeze competed against both R-Truth and Jimmy Uso. The NXT star lost each time. And as seen on ProFightDB.com, Breeze worked a dark match before Tuesday's SmackDown taping against local wrestler Chuck Lennox.
WWE often has a prospect work events like this before making his debut on the main roster. That could well be the case with Breeze. He's improved as both a talker and a mat worker during his time at NXT, and many would argue that he's been ready for a call-up for some time.
The more he gets thrown into events like these, the more likely it is he will be doing his selfie-taking on Raw.
