WWE NXT: Full Preview, Match Card and More for July 1
Welcome to Bleacher Report's preview for this week's episode of WWE NXT, where we take a spoiler-free look at what's in store for the developmental brand's upcoming episode.
A few big names are currently out with injuries, so some talents who are lower on the card have a chance to step up.
Over the past couple of months, we have seen a few new tag teams emerge, giving some Superstars who don't get a lot of exposure the opportunity to show what they can do.
Let's take a look at what's on tap for this week's episode of NXT.
The Women
Emma and Dana Brooke have been running through a lot of women on the roster in recent weeks, and they will attempt to continue that pattern Wednesday when Emma takes on Carmella.
Having Brooke in her corner gives Emma an advantage, but don't count out Carmella. She has the support of Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady, and that will help her greatly.
Emma is a talented wrestler, and she might be the biggest challenge Carmella has faced since joining the company. Carmella has a chance to prove she is capable of being more than just a valet for Amore and Cassady, so she can't waste this opportunity.
Even if she loses, putting on a good performance against someone as talented as Emma will help her. The few matches we have seen from Carmella show she has promise, but she will have to keep improving if she hopes to be a Diva on the main roster.
Women such as Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Bayley and Becky Lynch have set the bar high, so it's up to everyone else to reach their level at this point.
The Men
Tyler Breeze has been out of the main event scene for quite some time, and this week, he will face a wrestler with little to no name recognition when he takes on Tye Dillinger.
Prince Pretty is an incredible talent with a lot of skill and charisma, but he has been overshadowed by some big signings in recent months. Guys such as Kevin Owens, Finn Balor, Hideo Itami and Samoa Joe have forced him out of the spotlight.
Breeze has all the skills necessary to succeed in this business, and putting on a great performance in a throwaway match could help him get back to the spot he had a year ago.
Dillinger, on the other hand, just needs someone to notice him. He has been with the company for a while, but he hasn't had that breakout moment a person needs to climb the ladder.
A victory over Breeze would turn some heads. Dillinger doesn't have the indy credibility a lot of other guys have, so he needs to start making waves.
The second singles match of the evening will feature Baron Corbin going up against Tucker Knight. Don't feel bad if you don't recognize Knight's name. He is new to the company.
Corbin is coming off the biggest win of his career against Rhyno at TakeOver: Unstoppable, so he needs to capitalize on that momentum by dominating his opponent.
The crowd likes to count during Corbin's matches because they are always short, and chances are good this one won't last more than a minute.
Knight will likely be little more than a punching bag for Corbin, but if WWE sees something in him, he might surprise us all by putting up a good challenge.
The Tag Teams
The Vaudevillains will be in action this week when they take on the team of Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder. The manliest team in WWE has been getting more time in front of the camera as of late, and it never disappoints with its performances.
Dawson and Wilder are one of the newer tag teams to emerge over the past few months, and with hard work and a little luck, they will jell into a cohesive unit.
Dawson has had a couple of shots at the tag titles with other partners, but he hasn't been able to close the deal. A win with Wilder as his partner could put him back in the running for another title shot eventually.
The tag team scene in NXT is slowly being built up again, but these teams have a lot of work to do if they hope to be as popular as The Ascension and Lucha Dragons were.
Given enough time, this could be one of the better matches of the night. Simon Gotch and Aiden English are talented, and if Wilder and Dawson work well together, this will be a lot of fun.
The main event of the night will be a tag team match for a change. Owens will team with Rhyno to take on Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.
Owens and Rhyno attacked Balor last week, with Samoa Joe making the save and setting up this bout in the process.
This will be an incredible match based on who is involved. Owens, Balor and Joe are all great wrestlers, and Rhyno is still capable of great things after all these years.
Considering Joe is new to the scene, he needs this win more than anyone else. Despite his previous experience, he needs to build up credibility under the WWE banner, and losing his third match is not an option.
With a main event of this caliber, this is an episode you don't want to miss. What are you looking forward to on this week's NXT?
