Regardless, that fire from being snubbed by Klinsmann for a spot on the United States 2014 World Cup squad still burns inside the Yanks' all-time leading goalscorer.

In the aftermath of the United States women clinching their spot in the Women's World Cup final on Tuesday night, Donovan sent out a tweet praising Abby Wambach's veteran presence—the exact thing most people expected Donovan to provide in Brazil.

In the past, he showed he was able to take the snubbing in good stride.

But this wasn't the first time in recent weeks he alluded to the snub on Twitter. Donovan sent out this tweet when the American Gold Cup squad was announced:

Alexi Lalas couldn't help but engage in a bit of banter with Donovan:

He's been retired from international and club football since the end of last Major League Soccer season.

At least after the salty Klinsmann-related tweet, he moved on to far more pressing matters.
