Shaka Smart hasn't wasted any time hitting the recruiting trail after signing on as head coach of the Texas Longhorns, and he netted a big prize Tuesday in 2016 point guard prospect Jacob Young.
Young, who hails from Houston and attends Yates High School, chose Texas over the Baylor Bears and the Duquesne Dukes, each of which had submitted an offer to the floor general, according to 247Sports.
The first commit in Smart's 2016 class, Young is a 6'0'' ball-handler who's ranked No. 15 overall among point guards in his class and No. 7 overall at the position in the state of Texas, per 247Sports. Among all 2016 recruits, Young chimes in at No. 70 overall.
Jacob is the younger brother of former Oregon Ducks shooting guard Joseph Young, whom the Indiana Pacers selected at No. 43 overall in last week's NBA draft.
