Liverpool Transfer News: Barcelona Wonderkid Bobby Adekanye Imminent

Rory MarsdenJun 29, 2015

Liverpool look set to snap up one of Barcelona's young talents, with winger Bobby Adekanye reportedly on the verge of a move to Anfield.

The 16-year-old used his Instagram account to reveal his delight at the forthcoming switch:

Adekanye spent last season at PSV Eindhoven after being banned from playing for Barca as one of the disputed youth recruits who saw the Camp Nou outfit pick up a transfer ban from FIFA, which expires in January, per Simon Jones of MailOnline.

Adekanye reportedly underwent a medical on July 1 ahead of a move to Merseyside after he decided to quit the Catalan giants as no end is in sight concerning the dispute over his transfer, per the Liverpool Echo's James Pearce.

According to a recent report on Catalunya Radio (h/t Sport), Barca will demand no compensation for their La Masia player.

The Nigerian-born Adekanye grew up in the Netherlands and showed glimpses of his great potential when playing for PSV last year:

His great pace is an obvious asset, and it is not hard to see why Liverpool are interested in him as he would fit well into their fast, counter-attacking style.

Adekanye is also a fine distributor of the ball and possesses obvious flair, which would have attracted Barca when they signed him to their academy in 2011.

While he will clearly not be a first-team player straight away with the Reds under boss Brendan Rodgers, Adekanye will surely be given plenty of opportunities with the reserve side.

He looks like a genuine talent, but as noted by football reporter Melissa Reddy, he must fulfil his potential if he is to prove himself as a real star:

Liverpool fans will surely be eager to keep tabs on his progress.

The Reds have had a busy transfer window this summer, having already signed striker Danny Ings, goalkeeper Adam Bogdan, defender Joe Gomez, midfielder James Milner and forward Roberto Firmino.
