SENS AND DUCKS PLAY LET’S MAKE A DEAL

Last week Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray did some business with his old team by obtaining 22 year-old forward Jason Bailey from the Anaheim Ducks. Murray who is a former coach and GM of the Ducks purchased this Ottawa native in exchange for another forward in Shawn Weller. Last season Bailey who is a former 2005 third round pick of the Ducks toiled in the ECHL where he produced two assists in 35 games. Back in junior Bailey played for the Ottawa 67’s. Meanwhile Anaheim got a player in Weller who in 70 games for the Binghamton Senators of the AHL produced four goals and five assists.  

SILLINGER GOES TO EDMONTON 

After a 17- year career 38 year-old Mike Sillinger has turned in his skates and sticks in exchange for the Edmonton Oilers boardroom where he will serve as the director of player development. This Regina native scored a respectable 548 points during his long career that saw him play for such teams as the Detroit Red Wings, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Philadelphia Flyers, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes, Nashville Predators, St. Louis Blues and finally the New York Islanders. What made Sillinger so marketable for the Oilers is the vast experience that he has. “We are very excited to have Mike fill such an important role with us,” said Oilers GM Steve Tambellini. “We know his experience of 1,000-plus NHL games will benefit our younger players and the development of their careers.” 

PENGUINS TO VISIT THE WHITEHOUSE 

On Thursday evening the Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins will make that much anticipated visit to the White House where they will be meeting President Barack Obama. Led by 21 year-old captain Sidney Crosby the Penguins made some history as they were the first team since 1971 to win game seven on the road of a Stanley Cup finals. Two days after the White House visit the Penguins will start their training camp.
