Summer Sports That Make You Feel Like a Superstar Athlete

Giancarlo Ferrari-KingJun 30, 2015

When the weather gets nice, the outdoor games come calling. Without a ton of sports to enjoy on TV, regular athletic connoisseurs are forced to get their fix elsewhere.

Summer games are the absolute best. Lining up with a few buddies and playing a variety of backyard activities is way better than sitting around.

Sometimes, these games even make us feel like superstar athletes. Competition starts flowing through our veins, and all of the sudden, a regular backyard game can turn into Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Browsing all of the summer activities out there in the world, we were able to build a list consisting of 10 summer sports that turn all of us into superstar athletes.

Frisbee Golf

1 of 10

Frisbee golf—or, as some call it, "frolf"—has been one of the most endearing games to emerge in the summer months.

The sport that got some mainstream media play back when George Costanza brought it up on Seinfeld has evolved. Courses are now scattered across the globe so true "frolf" supporters can go out and get their game on.

Playing a round of this summer classic makes you feel some type of way. Anything competitive, regardless of how athletic the sport is, gives you a certain rush.

That being said, becoming a superstar in frisbee golf needs to be on everyone's summertime bucket list.

Wiffle Ball

2 of 10

Wiffle ball is a gentleman's game. As one of the easiest sports to pick up and get after around, it can turn your average Joe into a true backyard hero.

Whoever invented wiffle ball was a genius. Somehow, the sport itself provides a feeling of greatness without being too hard to play. Not only has it been a staple of the life of every kid who grew up infatuated with baseball, but adults love it too.

There isn't ever a time when wiffle ball gets dull, and that's why we all love it.

Spikeball

3 of 10

Spikeball was one of the biggest hits on ABC's Shark Tank because it took a sport—volleyball—and made it easy enough for everyone to play.

Played on the beach or in a backyard, Spikeball has quickly become a go-to game for consumers. Essentially, it's volleyball but played on a circular net.

Games are scored up to 21 points, and each contest involves two teams. It's quick and easy to pick up, and the constant movement and placement required to be great really get the blood boiling.

Spikeball is a must-own for anyone who wants to feel like a super athlete. In a few short years, it's already become a summer classic.

Flag Football

4 of 10

Warning: Video above contains NSFW lyrics.

Flag football is the safer, more fun version of the NFL. It requires no serious contact while maintaining the same level of intensity.

True flag football addicts will tell you how amazing this sport can be. Trick plays, creative scheming and that one-on-one competitiveness are only a few elements that make it so engaging.

Whenever a football ends up in someone's hands, he immediately gets that NFL itch. Using your imagination and pretending to be your favorite quarterback, running back or wide receiver is what we do as a society.

So, now there's only one question left to ask: Who here is going to be this summer's flag football superstar?

Beer Pong*

5 of 10

Beer pong and the summer are a perfect match. Sort of like peanut butter and jelly or soda and cake, pong is something you crave.

*It doesn't have to involve alcoholic beverages either. You can get creative with it and play any way you want.

No matter how you mix it up, pong brings out the superstar in all of us. Pretending to be Michael Jordan as you line up for the game-winning shot never gets old. It's good, old-fashioned fun that makes all of us feel alive.

Mini Golf

6 of 10

Most of us may not be able to drive a golf ball 250 yards or place it close to the pin. But one thing we can do is slam a golf ball through a clown's mouth and sink the occasional hole-in-one.

Mini golf is a glorious summer pastime. Played at beach towns across the United States, the world of mini golf is ever expanding.

You can bring your family or friends and get after it. Plus, when you get those competitive juices flowing and turn up the stakes, mini golf can become as competitive as the Masters.

Ladder Toss

7 of 10

All of the games we've named up to this point in time are pretty commonplace. Ladder toss breaks that mold. A real "do it yourself" type of game, ladder toss can be purchased or constructed by hitting your local hardware store.

Even though it's mostly stationary, that doesn't mean you can't feel like a rockstar when you're dueling with friends. The game is perfect under any circumstance.

Pool Basketball

8 of 10

We all love watching NBA players dunk a basketball. Athletes with elevation such as Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins redefined the meaning of throwing down.

Sadly, most of us weren't blessed with the same hops as those legends. Instead of pouting about it, we can all find solace in a little game we call pool basketball.

Pool basketball gives us the ability to emulate our favorite stars. Whether you're diving off the edge of the pool or catching alley-oops in it, this is one sport that fuels intense feelings of stardom.

Blitzball

9 of 10

One of the hottest trends in outdoor gaming has been the invention of Blitzball. A variation of wiffle ball, Blitzball is a hybrid version of that classic.

Using a custom-built ball, the Blitzball design allows individuals to throw an even deeper array of pitches. The way the ball leaves your hand and spins makes the game that much more entertaining. It may benefit pitchers, but at the same time, it doesn't take away from your ability to blast the ball out of the park.

If you get the chance, don't pass on Blitzball. Learning to spray the ball all over the plate makes you feel like Clayton Kershaw.

Badminton

10 of 10

Badminton has been a leading summertime game for many years now. It requires skill, athleticism and smarts.

In the context of games that turn you into superstar athletes, this racket sport more than qualifies. It brings out the best in people. All of that lateral movement has dudes feeling like Rafael Nadal out there on the badminton court.

There's a reason it's been around so long. Badminton is a cheap, easy to find game that provides hours of outdoor fun.
