Sri Lanka vs. Pakistan: Winners and Losers from 2nd Test
Sri Lanka bounced back after their dramatic loss in the first Test against Pakistan, winning the second Test by seven wickets. This series has been packed with entertainment and, most encouragingly, results, despite the weather trying its hardest to intervene.
We take a look at some of the winners and losers of the second Test. Add your thoughts in the comments.
Winner: Azhar Ali
1 of 6
Azhar Ali batted for over eight hours to score 117 in Pakistan's second innings. While his batting partners were falling around him, Ali knuckled down and tried his best to make something happen for his team.
His effort was in vain, but Ali has found some great form recently.
Winner: Angelo Mathews
2 of 6
Two decent scores from Angelo Mathews, including a very useful 43 in a tricky chase of 153, made for a very good outing for Sri Lanka's captain.
He also contributed with the ball, keeping one end tidy while his bowling partners were attacking.
Winner: Spin Bowlers
3 of 6
Pakistan's Yasir Shah had yet another good outing with eight wickets, and Sri Lanka's rookie Tharindu Kaushal had a superb first innings, chipping in with a five-for. Kaushal struggled in the second innings, conceding 76 runs without a single wicket.
Winner: Dhammika Prasad
4 of 6
Dhammika Prasad had a fantastic test, picking up seven wickets. The pitches have been mostly spinner-friendly, so his effort is even more outstanding.
Prasad has struggled with injuries throughout his career, but he has bounced back every single time. This time was no different for him.
The 32-year-old managed to get some good movement, and his determination to keep going when on a roll is something that has put him in good standing heading into the third Test.
Loser: Pakistan's Middle Order
5 of 6
In their first innings, Pakistan's middle order had a dire outing, with just one player getting into double figures. The second innings wasn't much better—only Younis Khan managed a score of note, but that was only 40.
This kind of collapse has been part and parcel of Pakistan cricket for quite some time, and while they got away with it in the first Test, it came back to bite them hard this time around.
Loser: Pakistan's Momentum
6 of 6
Pakistan looked like they might be on a roll after such a dramatic win in the first Test. That victory should have set them up for the rest of the series as the pressure was all on Sri Lanka to bounce back.
Collapsing as they did in the second Test has hampered their momentum and will undoubtedly have an impact heading into the third and final Test with all to play for.
