Sprint Cup Chase 2015: NASCAR Standings and Schedule After Toyota/Save Mart 350
NASCAR is inching closer toward this year's Chase for the Sprint Cup, with just 10 races left following Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350. Kyle Busch may have come out on top in that race, but Kevin Harvick still holds the top spot in the points standings.
Busch's win is one of the best stories in NASCAR this season, as the 30-year-old missed the year's first 11 races because of a broken leg suffered following a crash at Daytona International Speedway in February.
It was also a monumental win for Busch, as ESPN Stats & Info noted it put him in some exclusive company:
Speaking after his victory, per NASCAR's official Twitter, Busch called the win "unbelievable" and spoke about the people who helped his recovery:
Busch will need to reach the top 30 in the points standings to make the Chase, but his outlook has certainly changed thanks to this victory. He's currently in 37th place, 136 behind Cole Whitt for that elusive 30th spot.
There has been a two-man race for the top spot all season between Harvick and Martin Truex Jr., but Harvick padded his lead to 53 points following Sunday's fourth-place finish. The jumbled mess behind him is fascinating to watch, as there are three drivers within 18 points of Truex for second place.
In other words, NASCAR has everything it could have hoped for leading up to the Chase. Here are the updated points standings following the race at Sonoma Raceway:
| 1 | Kevin Harvick | 616 | - |

Even though Harvick has been in control of the points standings all season and Busch was victorious Sunday, Jimmie Johnson is the driver everyone will be paying attention to in the weeks to come. The six-time Sprint Cup Series champion has won a series-high four races this season, including two of the last six.
Johnson, who held the lead late Sunday, would be higher in the points standings were it not for three outlier races. He has three finishes 35th or worse that are dragging his points total down, but No. 48 has put those early-season struggles behind him.
There was a decision to not pit late in the race that wound up coming back to haunt Johnson down the stretch Sunday, as Busch passed him with five laps to go, and he was unable to keep pace, falling back to sixth place.
In fact, per Jay Pennell of Fox Sports, Johnson was one of three cars not to pit during a late caution flag:
While that particular decision will linger with the driver, he's got nothing to hang his head over based on his recent results.
Truex had his worst race of the year, finishing 42nd thanks to this crash early, per NASCAR:
Following the contact with David Ragan, Truex said that he felt it was not incidental given the way that the No. 55 car was driving, per Daniel McFadin of NBC Sports:
"Every time I passed the 55, he would just keep staying on the side of me and not giving me three or four inches to get clear so we could all get going. I guess he turned me on purpose. I ran into the side of him first, so I kind of had it coming. But that was an accident. I thought I gave him enough room there coming out of the esses.
"
Truex was certainly right to be frustrated with the way his day ended, but there haven't been many bad runs for the No. 78 car in 2015. This was only the second time he's finished outside the top 10 in 16 races.
Busch is the story of this race and deservedly so for all that he's endured over the last four months to experience this moment again. He's got a lot of work to do if the Chase is in his future, but this was a good first step.
Meanwhile, Harvick is able to coast off a fourth-place finish thanks to his consistency all year. The points chase is going to have plenty of drama, but the top spot isn't in any danger of changing hands.
