Washington Redskins: 2009 NFL Regular Season Schedule Fantasy Rankings

Sean E. DouglasSep 8, 2009

The Washington Redskins' 2009 NFL Regular Season Schedule

If the Redskins have any hope of making the playoffs this year, they will need Jason Campbell to step up and throw more touchdowns. This team will also need their talented defense to apply consistent pressure on the quarterback.

These two components have been lacking from this organization for a few seasons and if it does not change they won't beat teams like the Giants.

Below are three sections of interest worth paying attention to for Redskins fantasy owners coming into the season. First we have listed our fantasy players which we believe are worth paying attention to this season.

Next is strength of schedule against the run, pass and points against. Lastly, we have a few games selected that will be key in telling how this team will preform for the 2009 season.

Fantasy Players

QB.- Jason Campbell
RB.- Clinton Portis
RB.- Ladell Betts
WR.-Santana Moss
WR.-Malcolm Kelly
WR.-Devin Thomas
TE.- Chris Cooley
D.-   Redskins

Strength of Schedule

vs Run 4th Easiest Schedule

vs Pass 6th Hardest Schedule

vs Points Given Up 11th Easiest Schedule

Outside of the Redskins schedule against the pass, they have by far the best schedule in their division on paper. One has to believe this team should give Portis opportunities for success, even with a patch work o-line.

For Campbell to have success in the passing game, he will need Devin Thomas to deliver on his talent as he is now slated to start opposite Santana Moss. If Thomas can't deliver, then the Redskins will need someone else to fill his shoes.

Games of Interest

Weeks 15 - 17: Unfortunately for the Redskins, they have a tough ending to the season on paper as they play the Giants, Cowboys and Chargers in the final three weeks.

Washington is talented enough to be in the playoff hunt come this time of the year but it will be interesting to see if they can beat these teams down the stretch. At least they play the Giants and Cowboys at home and Dallas has not been very good in December in past seasons.

2009 Football Projection: Look for the 'Skins to be in the hunt all year as Campbell and the defense's pass rush should improve from last year. If they are to make the playoffs this season they will probably have to take two of their final three contests.
