NASCAR at Sonoma 2015 Results: Winner, Standings, Highlights and Reaction
Kyle Busch avoided the clutter and conquered the curves of Sonoma Raceway late to seize the checkered flag at Sunday's Toyota/Save Mart 350.
One of the Sprint Cup Series' most thrilling events, the road course claimed more than a few cars Sunday as NASCAR's best battled with the tricky course, although none proved better than Busch down the stretch.
Kyle fended off his brother, Kurt, marking the first time in history the Busch brothers finished first-second in a Sprint Cup Series event. For the winner, the late maneuvers are huge for his Chase chances.

As one of just two road courses on the schedule, it wasn't a surprise to see things get crazy right away.
Provided most drivers prefer the comforting ovals of the speedways, the precision turns and curves caused a few issues early on as drivers got settled into the zone.
The first major mishap occurred when David Gilliland, who entered the day 29th in the standings, suffered a flat tire and flew off the track, a wicked accident NASCAR captured:
Woody Cain of the Motor Racing Network documented the aftermath:
It didn't take long for the next major wreck to rear its ugly head, either.
The second one wound up producing a red flag for repairs, as Martin Truex Jr. found himself on the wrong end of an encounter with David Ragan. A video in real time shows the suddenness of the crash:
As for Truex, well, he wasn't too happy about his day ending so early. PRN shared his reaction while the red flag went up and the barriers were put back together:
Truex has every right to be upset too. He entered the day a close fourth in the standings with a shocking seven consecutive top-10 finishes to his name, including a win at Pocono Raceway.
After that wreck, things did calm down a bit as the drivers got back on the track and seemed adjusted enough to avoid another catastrophe, although there were a few minor hiccups and scrapes.
That's not to suggest the misfortune entirely dissipated. For example, AJ Allmendinger, the pole winner, continued to struggle with mechanical issues and stressed the problem via radio before returning to the garage, per Richard Allen of RacingWithRich:
Allmendinger wound up finishing 37th after leading for a single lap.
One Jeff Gordon, he of an elite track record at Sonoma, experienced his fair share of difficulties as well before finishing 16th. USA Today's Jeff Gluck described Gordon's thoughts at one point:
Down the stretch, Jimmie Johnson battled with Clint Bowyer and Kurt Busch, by far the biggest benefactor of a late caution considering he moved up eight spots. It was the last caution that made things most interesting, though, even letting Gordon get back in on the action with seven laps left.
It also allowed Kyle Busch back in the running on fresh tires, as opposed to Johnson, who didn't pit. A few dramatic, high-risk passes later, Kyle Busch was able to fend off his brother to take the trip down Victory Lane.
On the way, NASCAR Stats shared a staggering bit of data, proving just how unexpected the final outcome was:
How about a stat proving Kyle Busch is one of the sport's premier talents? ESPN Stats & Info shared it:
Entering Sunday, Kyle Busch needed an average finish of 13th and one victory to qualify for the Chase after NASCAR granted him an exception for missing time with an injury due to his violent crash at Daytona International Speedway earlier this year.
Kyle Busch and the Series return next weekend to the familiar confines of Daytona for the Coke Zero 400, a late-evening event sure to decide much in the way of the standings.
It might not prove as entertaining as Sunday's affair, but it will be just as important.
