Ferrer Out of Davis Cup Clash vs. Russia

Friday, July 10

Ferrer announced (via Reuters) he would miss Spain's next Davis Cup matchup, which begins on July 17.

"I don't know when I will be able to return to action," Ferrer wrote. "I will keep you posted."

Ferrer was having a solid season, with a 36-8 record and three singles titles, though losing in the fourth round at the Australian Open and in the quarterfinals at the French Open were disappointments (and a tough draw against Andy Murray at Roland Garros didn't help).

Now, the hope will be that this injury doesn't sideline him for an extended period or force him to miss the final Grand Slam of the year, the U.S. Open. After a streak of so many Grand Slam events, missing two in a row would be a major disappointment for the Spaniard.
