Iker Casillas Transfers to Porto from Real Madrid
Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas sealed a move to FC Porto after the Spain international and the Bernabeu club settled discussions to end his current deal. Real Madrid announced the move, via Simeon Gholam of the Daily Mail.
""For Real Madrid today is a day, before and above all, for an acknowledgement. This will not be one of the best goalkeepers at our club - it is the best goalkeeper in the history of Real Madrid and Spanish football. We have agreed the transfer to the Portuguese club for Iker Casillas."
"
Hugo Cerezo of Marca claimed on July 9 negotiations were at an impasse, leaving Casillas' switch to Porto in jeopardy at the time. According to Marca, Real Madrid agreed to pay for the tax involved in the deal, which was the final hangup in the discussions.
Casillas’ future was plunged into uncertainty by Real’s widely publicised pursuit of Manchester United’s David De Gea, per Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror.
Casillas' signing is a major coup for Porto. While 2014-15 wasn’t the most glittering of campaigns for the goalkeeper, both personally and for Real Madrid, talk of his demise has been over the top. Put simply, the 34-year-old Spaniard remains one of the game's top goalkeepers.
