United Preparing Straight £50m Move for Cavani
Tuesday, July 14
"PSG will want Angel Di Maria in exchange but United are understood to be reluctant to trade their record signing despite his debut-season struggles and would prefer to make a straight cash offer of around £50m for Cavani," reported Richard Tanner of the Daily Express.
Tanner's article is in contrast to an earlier report by Harry Pratt of the Daily Star Sunday on June 28, which claimed the Red Devils would consider allowing Di Maria to leave for PSG if they get Cavani in return.
It was also claimed Cavani would “love” a crack at the Premier League and the deal suits both parties, with United able to offload Di Maria “without losing face.”
Cavani has had a mixed time of things in the French capital and has regularly been shifted around the team away from his preferred centre-forward position to accommodate the talismanic Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
He’s a quality forward and a prolific goalscorer, but as noted here by WhoScored.com, the notion that the Uruguayan is a ruthless finisher is a little misguided:
Nonetheless, Cavani would add the drive and dynamism to United’s front line which Wayne Rooney does not currently provide.
Whether the Red Devils would be willing to give up on Di Maria to expedite a potential switch is another matter entirely, however, as is the Parisians' stance on any potential switch.
