Travelers Championship 2015: Leaderboard Scores and Highlights from Saturday

Mike ChiariJun 27, 2015

The landscape of the 2015 Travelers Championship changed significantly during Saturday's third round as Brian Harman used a five-under 65 to surge past Bubba Watson for sole possession of the tournament lead at 14-under.

Harman posted his second consecutive round of 65, but as seen in this rundown of the leaderboard from PGATour.com, he is being closely pursued by both Watson and Canada's Graham DeLaet:

The day began with Harman trailing Watson by two shots for the lead, but he was able to erase the deficit and pull in front by virtue of an extremely strong round. Harman posted five birdies and no bogeys, but no shot was bigger than this one on the 18th, courtesy of the PGA Tour's official Twitter account:

Harman went on to make that putt for birdie, which held up as the difference between him and the second-place golfers.

Although Watson didn't have an awful day, his 68 paled in comparison to the scores of 62 and 67 that he put up in the opening two rounds respectively.

Things actually could have gone much worse for the veteran lefty, but a fortuitous bounce on the 15th hole saved him from dropping additional strokes:

Watson is joined at 13-under by DeLaet, who surged up the leaderboard with a six-under 64, which was among the best scores of the round.

The Canadian picked up four strokes in a four-hole stretch on the back nine, culminating in this big-time eagle make on 15 to put him just one shot off the lead entering Sunday's final round:

While DeLaet's round of 64 was fantastic, he certainly wasn't alone in that regard. Paul Casey and Zach Johnson also shot six-under rounds of 64, and they are lurking a few shots behind Harman at 11-under.

Casey has played fewer tournaments on the European Tour this season, and Brian Wacker of PGATour.com pointed out that is has been a fruitful decision:

There is no question that he'll have to card another excellent score and get some help in the fourth round in order to win, but Sergio Garcia put himself in contention as well Saturday with a four-under 66.

He trails Harman by five strokes at nine-under, but he is looking forward to seeing what type of progress he can make Sunday:

The low round of the day was shared by a pair of Americans in Brandt Snedeker and Patrick Rodgers, who both surged up the leaderboard with seven-under rounds of 63.

Snedeker is now tied for fourth, and he has a legitimate shot to make a run at the title due to his recent streak of strong finishes, according to PGA Tour Media:

The 22-year-old Rodgers isn't as well known as Snedeker, but his performance wasn't any less impressive. He barely made the cut at two-under through two rounds, however, he is suddenly in the hunt as he moved up 51 spots into a tie for eighth.

It was a somewhat shocking round of golf from Rodgers considering how close he came to missing out on the PGA Tour, per ESPN.com's Jason Sobel:

As was the case following the second round, there is no shortage of contenders with the third round officially in the books. Harman has a slight advantage, but 13 golfers are within at least five shots of him.

He'll have his work cut out for him if he wants to maintain the lead and hoist the trophy, but he has a history of success while being in this very position, according to Justin Ray of GolfChannel.com:

Unfortunately for Harman, though, one-shot leads through three rounds have proven remarkably difficult to hold over the past couple years, per GolfChannel.com's Will Gray:

Harman proved Saturday that he wasn't intimidated by being near the top of the leaderboard alongside some big-time golfers. Playing from behind and playing with the lead are two very different dynamics, however.

The 28-year-old former University of Georgia standout will go to sleep knowing that PGA Tour stalwarts like Watson, Snedeker, Casey, Johnson and Garcia all have an opportunity to hunt him down Sunday.

Even if Harman doesn't fold under the pressure, holding off a former Travelers Championship winner like Watson may not be in the cards.
