Datsyuk Out 4 to 6 Weeks

Friday, June 26

The Red Wings confirmed that Datsyuk underwent surgery Friday:

Datsyuk was limited to 63 regular-season appearances due to his troublesome ankle, but it didn't prohibit him from rounding out his 13th NHL campaign with impressive numbers.

The 36-year-old was particularly hobbled by the injury late in the season, when he didn't appear in a single game between March 15 and March 28. However, he did return in time to make six appearances to round out the regular season before notching three goals and two assists over the course of seven games during Detroit's first-round loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

According to the Associated Press (via Sports Illustrated), Datsyuk will not join Team Russia at the 2015 World Hockey Championships due to the injury.

Despite missing 18 games, Datsyuk rang up 26 goals—his most in a single season since recording 27 during the 2009-10 campaign. In fact, his 63 appearances this season represented an 18-game improvement over the 2013-14 season and 16-game improvement over the 2012-13 slate.

There has been no preliminary word regarding Datsyuk's presumed availability for training camp in the fall.
