Buffalo Bills: Demetrius Bell In, Langston Walker Out

In another move of desperation before the season beings, the Bills released their LT Langston Walker today. Buffalo will now turn to youngster Demetrius Bell to fill the veterans' shoes in the starting LT job.

On Friday, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Turk Schonert, and now they will be leaning on their quarterback coach Alex Van Pelt for play calling.

Maybe some Buffalo fans are not concerned, but from a fantasy football perspective, I am very concerned.

No Offensive Line

Beyond the possible problems in play calling that could arise, my biggest concern for this team just got bigger.

Earlier in the offseason I wrote a column on the Bills' projected line and how it looked just a season ago. Below I have our list of how the line changed in one offseason. Now you will have to change Walker out for Bell.

As you can see, with Bell in the lineup the Bills now have three linemen with no starting experience protecting quarterback Trent Edwards. Not only that, but they will have a backup from another team at center and a traditional right guard at right tackle.

This One Makes Sense

Today I read a great article by Jerry Sullivan from the Buffalo News. The article was published on Sept. 3, before Walker was cut from the team.

In the article, he was saying that if the Bills like Bell so much they should move Walker back to RT and move Brad Butler back to RG. This would give the Bills their traditional right side of the line back.

I fully agree with Mr. Sullivan's thinking, but apparently the Bills did not.

Fantasy Player Rankings for Bills' Offense

If you haven't drafted your fantasy team(s) yet, then I would suggest you pass on all Bills players at this time. Maybe you could draft them if they keep falling in the draft, and you can get them cheap.

For those of you who have Buffalo players already, I would say bench everyone except for Terrell Owens. Unless you have a very deep receiving core, Owens is still worth playing as long as Edwards is healthy.

Edwards is probably not worth a roster spot, and Lee Evans is a bye week fill in at this point.

Obviously, Marshawn Lynch is out of action the first three weeks, so he wouldn't be starting. Once he comes back, we will know more about the Bills' offensive situation.
