Kevon Looney to Warriors: Twitter Reacts as PF Is Selected in 2015 NBA Draft

Timothy RappJun 25, 2015

During the draft process, many pundits thought Kevon Looney could be a lottery pick. But the power forward may not be too upset he dropped well out of the lottery, as he'll be heading to the defending NBA champion Golden State Warriors with the No. 30 pick.

Sports Illustrated announced the news on Twitter:

Looney clearly wanted to go much earlier in the draft, and his night was a difficult one, as Luke Winn of Sports Illustrated noted:

Mike Bresnahan of the Los Angeles Times had more on Looney's reaction to being selected by the Warriors:

And Looney didn't hesitate to express his thankfulness after joining the champs, per the NBA on Twitter:

One of the reasons Looney fell down the board was concern over his hip, though Chad Ford of ESPN thinks that could simply be a detour on the road to stardom:

But Looney's hip may not have been the only concern team had, per Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress.com:

Looney will be joining a championship roster that will see players such as MVP Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Andrew Bogut, Andre Iguodala, Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli return.

While there will be some turnover for the Warriors—David Lee seems likely to be traded, while there is the possibility restricted free agent Draymond Green will sign an offer sheet Golden State doesn't match, though that's unlikely—they will hit the 2015-16 season as one of the favorites to win another title.

That means the team won't need to rush Looney along and can slowly groom him, and in turn, there won't be much pressure on him entering the league. If anything, if he manages to crack the rotation and earn meaningful minutes, it will be a pleasant surprise.

Still, the chance to be a part of a championship roster and learn from some of the best players in the league and a coach like Steve Kerr has to be exciting for Looney. He probably would have wanted to go a bit higher in the draft, but he certainly ended up in a fantastic situation.
