Day 1 Recap

Jensen, Cabrera-Bello and Gaunt all finished the first round seven-under, taking a one-shot lead over England's Andrew Johnston heading into the second day of competition.

The Dane was the first to manage the score with a flawless round of golf, before Cabrera-Bello tied his score thanks to a sensational back-nine. After suffering two bogeys on the front-nine, the Spaniard bounced right back to score five of his nine birdies on the back-nine, per the European Tour's official Twitter account.

Gaunt joined the duo at the top of the leaderboard with a long birdie putt at the ninth, one of many impressive shots fans got to enjoy on Thursday:

Henrik Stenson triple-bogeyed the 16th before going on a tear to rise back into the top 10, routinely hitting incredible shots like this one:

The Swede last won this tournament in 2006 and ranks among the favourites for this year's crown, and given the way he bounced back after that triple, few will doubt his form coming into the tournament.

He's tied with Tommy Fleetwood at five-under, well within striking distance of the leaders. Fleetwood scored a beautiful eagle on the sixth but bogeyed twice, as his putting looked off on several occasions.

An opening round of five-under is nothing to scoff at, however, and the Brit has every right to be proud of his performance on Thursday:

Victor Riu also finished the day five-under, playing a calm and patient opening round.

Martin Kaymer could only manage level par after struggling from the tee on Thursday, but he did manage to excite fans with several miraculous saves and one of the best shots we'll see all week.

After his approach to the ninth landed well short of the green, the German appeared to be in real trouble. And then he did this:

The greens in Munich looked absolutely stunning, and with the weather expected to hold up on Friday, per Weather.com, fans can expect to see much of the same in terms of top-level play. Down by two shots, Stenson remains the favourite to ascend to the top spot on the leaderboard, although Cabrera-Bello has been in superb form and both Jensen and Gaunt looked locked in from the tee.

Edoardo Molinari and Pablo Larrazabal aren't too far back on the leaderboard, either, setting up a fantastic race to the title heading into Day 2.
